Superman Returns I was glad to see the first day, but the actors just can't fill the shoes of their forebears. It ends up being interesting, but seldom very poignant or exciting.
The Progression servers were locked (big surprise, new servers never are stable). I logged into my trader to see what money he had to deposit (nothing), checked the bank and inventory a little, then logged to Zoransis, my main character.
I found a lot of titles available to him - ultimately I settled on the title "Predator" and the suffix "of Luclin" since that was the server of my origin.
Plane of Knowledge looked the same, except there was this demonic-looking goblin like character near one of the trees close to the archway between the dark side portals and the neutral.
Apparently, he has some quest to find various halflings - one is in the Freeport Catecombs, another sounds like they are in Mistmoore, another some Bard type which I assume to be haunting the Bard guild in Freeport, the others I dunno.
The quest NPC also mentions not to return to them without wearing a costume. So this demon may be a halfling (quite out of place being nearest the Cabilis portal). Anyhow, it sounds like a limited time quest, so I may have to read up on this.
I decide I can fart around the Freeport Sewers without fear, and no sooner do I zone into West Freeport do I ask myself, "Where the f*ck am I!?" After looking around a bit, I noticed the decaying skeletons, and a guarded citadel entry portal, studied the layout a while then concluded OMG THEY REDID THE OLD WORLD GRAPHICS!
This may be the chief draw of the Progression servers - yes, you will have a limited selection of continents, races, perhaps quests and content - but the territory will be NEW. The layout shown on the maps differs from what I remember West Freeport having. I headed for the corner of the zone typically where you can go through an illusary wall and find the tunnels and the book to PoK.
Yes, the fake wall still exists but beyond it is a ZONE. The freeport sewers are no longer included in a city zone. I guess this means one doesn't have to fear the guards aggro'ing down to there, or other inconveniences. And since it is a new zone, it definitely does NOT have the layout of the classic EQ sewers. Much of the same mobs, yes.
There are no new or upgraded character graphics (unless that demon disguise is one of many), some NPCs are the classic blocky style still, and there's no added features (like speech bubbles).
The UI is basically the same as always, cept for there are some new panels to examine, and there's keymapping available for 4 sets of hotbuttons. So if you want 40 commands available on screen, you can have it. The default arrangement seems to be conducive to having 2 rows of hotkeys across the bottom.
Since the old apparently is new again, texture and model upgrades all over, I will have to consider whether I want to level a Druid because of the travel and soloing potential, or level a Necromancer because they are the most fun for me.
Without a Plane of Knowledge, this makes a damned strong case for a Druid, cept for I never learned how to level in the range between when you can't really kite and when you can. From 12-24(?), I will practically have to group... since popping into PoK for a free KEI won't be possible.
