Couldn't sleep, so I dug into my ST tapes and happened upon the first DS9 encounter with the mirrorverse. Aside from alternate universes' seeming requirement of female protagonists in leather and/or vinyl (Mirrorverse Kira and Wishverse Willow), I love that the ST mirrorverse gives the franchise some leeway to be a "dirty" universe. I realize the franchise has lasted so long probably in no small part because ST is so "clean," but a world where main characters are killed off left and right because it makes sense to the *story* is awesome.
I remember watching it for the first time and gasping that Kirk's influence on Spock had inadvertently brought about the enslavement of Terrans. Brilliant decision on the part of the producers and writers. I've gotta find some way to watch all of DS9 again -- I didn't like it much when it originally aired (too dark and complex), but now I think it's something I'd *love*.
