I HAD A BABY BROTHER AND HE WAS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY*

Forget what I said before. Forget anything I said about ... anything bad. I watched Mad Max again for the third time while I was on vacation with Marty, and I'm considering going again today after a job interview. I'm at the stage of goggle-eyed infatuation where I can't understand how anyone could not be rolling around crying from how beautiful ( Read more... )

Did you see it? And, if so, was it OK?

It was pretty good. It had no plot, but great engine noises.

The movie has internal logic, dream logic, and emotional logic. Does it have linear plot logic? It has ENOUGH linear plot logic to work, even if that's not its main point.

It's an iceberg of a movie. You know that there is another 95% of stuff going on that you just never see and is never talked about.

But they have a truck with a megawatt of amps and six taiko drummers, with a guy in a red onesie and a combination flamethrower/electric guitar bungie-corded to the front of it. And ... it makes SENSE that they have one. Because of COURSE they do. How could they NOT have one?

I mean, I guess you could have diesel-powered bagpipes. But of COURSE they have a bagpiper-analogue, and of course the bagpiper-analogue is based on a type of rave that Australians have out in the desert.

Because, how could they NOT have one? Before I saw the Doof Warrior (a "doof" is an Aussie or Kiwi desert rave, named after the music -- "DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF"), I didn't know that he had to exist. But once I saw him, it was obvious.

Yes. You have to take the reality as presented, as opposed to wondering what in hell all these people eat and drink ;)
(Or why Max isn't blind by about 15 min in)

That's addressed. In a sort-of way. I mean, we know that the Citadel has enough food and water for everybody, and the reason there are shortages is because Immortan Joe wants there to be shortages, for him to stay in power.

We know that Gastown has diesel. And, for all we know, it, like the Citadel, has enough diesel for everybody, and it's an artificial, created shortage. Similar for the Bullet Farm.

What do all these people eat and drink? Whatever Immortan Joe lets them eat and drink. Or whatever Gastown and Bullet Farm trade for them.

As far as I can tell, that pod at the back of the War Truck that Furiosa was driving was SUPPOSED to be filled with water to trade to Gastown, and then come back with a pod filled with gas. Furiosa stole a gas pod instead to trade to the bikers.

Something like that, at least. I think I'm filling in a lot of details that weren't ever stated, but I think that what I just said is consistent with what the movie said.

Yeah, but it is made fairly clear that immortan joe does not give the ground dwellers sufficient to eat and drink, given that they run to the mountain with containers in the hopes he will throw water at them. Let alone 'what do the vuvalini eat and drink.' Or what happens to unprotected eyes traveling at high speed even without sand.

This isn't a movie it's a...an instruction manual on how to be rad. It's chrome and shiny.
