But when I finished it, I could see the fairly large clasp completed overwhelmed the dk-weight lacy cardigan. Not a good look.
So I started thinking of what it would look good on more carefully. I decided I needed something with chunky weight yarn and I wanted the clasp to be above boob-level. Didn't want the clasp to be like a siren screaming: look at my boobs! I searched and searched on Ravelry and finally found the jawbreaker cardigan. It's from an Interweave Knits from a few years ago and closed with one big button. I looked online for the yarn (Colinnette prism) and saw it came in some gorgeous colors. Happily I also found it at a pretty good price in a color I liked - turquoise. Turquoise, yes, but with tons of spots of other colors mixed in. A real melange of pretty colors.
This ended up being a very good thing when I was putting my jawbreaker together. See - I decided that I didn't like a collar. It was asymmetrical and flopped over whilst being kind of curly and I just didn't like it. Didn't look good with the clasp. I decided the clasped wanted a lower, round neckline. Like the Holly jacket on the cover of a spring Interweave Knits a while back. So I ripped back until I liked the folded over width and then tacked the live stitches down. I think in any other yarn it would look pretty obvious and terribly. But the joy of the crazy busy yarn! Totally worked and I'm very happy.
I also increased the sleeve length to full sleeve and knit a two-stitch garter edge on the two fronts. Used almost every last bit of yarn - maybe two yards left over!.
So what else have I been up to? More knitting (of course!), some cooking (the Mountain stew recipe from the Vegetarian Times cookbook looks bad but tastes great!), some reading, and some movie watching. Last weekend I saw 'Doubt' (excellent), 'Possession' (good), 'Precious' (depressing but well done), and 'Labyrinth' (awful, but puppets! and David Bowie's package!).
