what a great day off!!!

Nov 30, 2005 07:48

So yesterday was my day off. It was pretty great, if I do say so myself.

Got up around nine and took a shower and got ready for court. Before I go into that, lemme do a little background. At the last court thing, Vince (the driver) had only done 20 hours of some court work that he had to do. He still had 60 hours of community service to finish. Since that day, he had broken his probation and was put on a thether. Then, on Thanksgiving, a phone call was made to my Aunt Mary's (James' mom) house. It was from L. Thomson, which would be Vince's mother. Hmmm, interesting since there is a no contact order in the papers. So yeah, my uncle went over and took a picture of her caller id. HAHA, get out of that one!! Anyways...

So we find out before we leave that our prosecuting attorney won't be there, and either will the regular judge that we have because they are both working on that case with the adoption couple. So my aunt was pretty upset with that, just because it felt like every time we have one of these things, Vince gets some kind of break, and its really aggravating. Anyways...so we get to the court house (there were 12 of us) and as we were standing in the Victim Advocate room, our lady (I'm not sure what her title is, but her name is Sandy) told us that Vicky (prosecuting attorney) WILL be there, because the defense rested and called no witnesses. So woohoo for us!! We still had a different judge, but we had her. So, we go to the court room. When the judge walked in, I knew right away I liked him. He was old and grumpy looking. My mom thought he was gonna be some nice old guy. I figured, he's done this for a long time. He's seen the crap that kids pull and he won't put up with it.

Well, the thing starts and the probation officer talks about everything that happened. How he's on a thether and that Vince's mom tried to cover for him and how since she lied about that, maybe she lied about all the other stuff that we read and brought to his attention. He said he wanted Vince to do 60 more hours of community service, even though he completed the 20 and the 60 hours that were originally in the order. He said he felt it should be more meaningful, and that maybe NOW he would learn that his actions have consequences, and that this (the 60 more hours) would be his consequence for breaking probation. They bring up the phone call and talk about that. Then the judge starts to talk.

He is basically the coolest person ever. He talked right to Vince and his parents. His mom is a real piece of work. She started crying and talking about how her family is grieving and they are going through a divorce and how the last year has been indescribable for them. HM, us too!!! I mean, I'm sure it hasn't been easy for them, but they still have their son. Mary doesn't. She apologized for the phone call and said that she doesn't know who called...except she lives in an apartment, and not a big one. You KNOW who is on the phone, unless you aren't home...which wouldn't be unheard of. Anyways, the judge told Vince to stop playing the system because he's seen it be done before. He said that he was going to add the 60 hours into the order and have him do it. He also said that, even though he's retired, if he hears that Vince isn't doing what he's supposed to be doing, that he'll come back in three months to do the hearing again. And he said he's going to keep checking up on him through the courts to make sure he's doing what he should be, and if he hears otherwise, he'll get him some institutionalized (spelling??) help. Then Vince's mom started talking again and saying that she didn't ask for her son to be spared and that he still has a life and that she wants him to grow and prosper. Well, that won't happen if you let him get away with EVERYTHING!! I think that woman is crazy. I really do. Vince's dad talked a little bit. He basically said that now he has his own house (his parents are going through a divorce) and Vince will be moving in with him and that things will be put back on the right track and be how they are supposed to be. I hope he's right, but who knows.

I feel better after that. I feel like people are finally seeing the family that we've seen this whole time. Vince is also getting a new probation officer who we know nothing about. But hopefully he'll be good!! I just hate this whole thing!! I feel bad for Vince. I want him to have a good life, and I want him to get his life back on track. But, I can only feel so bad for him until I realize that HE'S throwing his life away, nobody else. HE has to change before anyone can help him. I really think he needs to get away from his mom. She goes out all the time to the bars with her friends. I just don't think shes a good role model for a son that has so many issues already. I think she's very immature and doesn't know how to set boundaries for her children. I don't know her, but this is just what I've gathered from her words and actions in court and the stories I've heard from my uncles. Hopefully his dad can set him straight and things start to change.

Anyways...after the court thing, we came back home. Then I went to the bank, McDonalds, and then to Jerry's house. We hung out for a little bit and then went to the movies and dinner. It was good. Had some good talks. Went back to Jerry's house and watched Biggest Loser finale. Then we watched part of SVU and then I went home. It was a very good day. And now, I have to work today. BLAH. I don't wanna work again...ever!!!

Later!!
