Carry on with: 2 pairs (2 sets I guess for girls) of underwear 2 pairs of socks Change of clothes Light jacket Toothbrush Extra pair of contacts
Only because I've twice lost luggage (albeit temporarily) and the day or two wait while the airline got it back to me wasn't such a huge deal only because of the stuff I had in my carry on.
Apart from that: -Call your cell phone company - some require you to tell them you're going to a certain country before your phone will work there... even if you don't plan on using it, it's nice to have just in case -Sunscreen - foreign drug stores without any english labelling are usually a bit of an adventure -Proper power adapters for all your stuff -Photo dump device (ipod, external HD etc. plus burn CD/DVD's while there as backup) -If you take any pens put them in a ziploc bag - they're usually fine on an airplane, but better safe than sorry because the sorry really sucks in this case -When you get there, your hotel's business card and $50 american in a tight pocket (inside pocket maybe) - I know you're not much of a drinker, so this might not be such a big deal :o but if you get lost, lose all your stuff, somebody steals all your stuff, etc. this might be a lifesaver
Call your phone company up - you might be surprised. If it works I don't recommend using it as it will be a complete ripoff, but it's nice to have just in case.
I'll just add to the list as things come to me: -Make sure none of your fluids are full (moutwash, shampoos etc). Things get cold in a plane's luggage bay and water expands when it freezes - if you don't give it room to expand it'll find room -Roll clothes don't fold them... it'll help with wrinkles -If you find yourself without access to an iron, hang your clothes in the washroom while you take a hot steamy shower - not the best option to get out wrinkles, but it will help -Wrap your water bottle in a spin or two of duct tape - works great as an emergency bandage, or to cover up blisters you'll get druing hours of sightseeing in fancy new shoes :o -If you're going to be carrying a bag anywhere pack it now and take it to work for a week - is it comfortable? too heavy? etc... better to find out now -Take lots of pics!!!

I don't think my phone would work there so i'm not even going to bother taking it... or if I do, it will just be to keep track of time.
