Call to Action

Contact your Senator or Representative

If Congress passes the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (H.R. 1256), and President Obama signs it into law, the manufacture and blending of your favorite tobacco may soon become illegal.

If H.R. 1256 becomes a law this year, passed by both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, it is likely that pipe tobacco will be classified as a narcotic, an unsafe drug. And it will become so regulated that tobacco shops, which are already struggling to stay alive, will be forced out of business.

It’s time for ACTION!

Now is the time to contact your U.S. Senator or U.S. Representative by phone, by fax or by electronic correspondence (email).

And, if you want to get in touch through snail mail, addresses for all Representatives and Senators from the largest tobacco-producing states are listed on the Congressmen from Largest Tobacco States And How to Contact Them table.

It’s easy to reach your national legislative caucus or the individual members of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate from your congressional district. To do so, first copy and paste the suggested message below so you have it available when it is asked for, then go to one of the websites below, select your State and follow the simple steps they give you.

If you live in one of the tobacco growing states, click here to view the Congressional Table compiled by the Editor that has all of the information you need to contact your Senators or Representative.

To send in or to read a phone message, copy and paste this suggested message and add your own comments. (State your point, be polite and no abusive or foul language):

I am a pipe smoker who has reached majority. I firmly believe that the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act is an outright attack on my rights and freedoms as a U.S. citizen. Please understand I expect you to protect my individual rights as an American citizen and vote NO on the passage of this legislation when it comes to a final vote either in the House, Senate, or after a conference of the two bodies.

I am also a voter.

Respectfully,
