Just finished watching my mother's taped copy of the Doctor Who two-parter that recently aired.
OMG.
"The Family of Blood"?
FUCKING AWESOME EPISODE.
And I think I may finally understand why some people think David Tennant is hot.
Cutting this because it may be a wee bit spoilerish,
and I don't know for sure that this one has aired in the U.S. yet:
-"You're rubbish as a human!" - both my mother and I LOLed.
-"Do you think they will thank you?" - Oooh.
-The scene where all the little boys are sobbing as they aim their guns, and the following battle montage - so sad. Just a minute before, my mother and I had been arguing over the wisdom of what the school had chosen to do. I said that if MY school were the one under attack, I'd be happy for it to be a military school.
"I suppose...but if it weren't a military school, do you think they might have chosen another approach?"
"You mean, like, 'Run like hell?'"
"Well, exactly."
I'm not sure I agree with that (the Family clearly showed they had the firepower to overwhelm no matter what; the people of the village did better when the Family knew approximately where the Doctor was, and had to get into the school first); still it was a heart-breaking scene.
And I want a screencap of Smith holding that gun. No real reason; it's just a great image.
-John Smith = SUCH a woobie. When you have two women embracing you and trying to comfort you, you're well past the point of "vulnerable" and risking "pathetic." If you aren't actually the Doctor, I guess, which sorta saves your street cred.
(I think David Tennant spent at least half of this episode crying, which just makes the transformation at the end between a desperately afraid human and a Time Lord that much more startling.)
-LOVED Tim Latimer's speech to Smith about who the Doctor is - He burns at the center of the universe, or however the heck it goes. Especially after so much emphasis on how pathetic and empty the Doctor's existence is, and how lonely. I NEED a transcript of that speech, STAT.
-WHOA DUDE to Martha's confession.
-WHOA also to the fates of the Family.
-"I must look so small to you," and, "In the end, he was braver than you. You chose to change. He chose to die." I love the writing.
-David Tennant outside the TARDIS with Martha, and it's raining and his hair is wet? Okay, I'll allow that he can be cute. (I like the rain sounds, too. Too many sound effects people make rain too obvious and loud.)
-Final scenes were hair-raising, and sad and awesome and great.
SO. Yes. I will be needing screencaps and transcripts.
And to catch up more, because I've only watched up to "Dalek" in whichever series-thingie has the Ninth. (Okay, Wikipedia calls it Series 1, but I seem to have a mental block going on here, because it cannot be the first anything after EIGHT preceding Doctors. That just makes NO SENSE.)
It's hard to watch around my work schedule. Gah, fitting in a HAIRCUT is almost impossible, but I also did that today. Along with (I think) kicking a bug that was about to sink its teeth into my immune system.
Witness my accomplishments.
