long weekend

our house is crawling with tradies again today - given that it's labour day public holiday, does this seem ironic to anyone but me? made the contentious decision to close and take the day off work (radical because melbourne uni doesn't recognise labour day and the rest of the building is open). sincere apologies to anyone who spent the morning ( Read more... )

It was worth missing the muffins to support a reasonable (and not contentious, IMHO) decision :)

I'm starting to have mixed feelings about events like RTC. The last time I went, it seemed more like an ego-boost for protests whores rather than something that was *actually* going to achieve anything. I think one the major problem was that the message of the protest wasn't clear enough - it wasn't going to achieve anything beyond coming across as a group of grungey hippies being obnoxious and holding up the traffic while swigging bottles of VB, with a few random banners about animal liberation and rainforests thrown in.

If I'm going to get involved in something, I want to know that it's actually going to have an impact, and not just end up alienating everyone else.

That's my soap box session for the day :)

I completely endorse your anti social stance. maybe weshould all get together and form a support group? Loners Unite?

that's very clever - almost as clever as 'society for creative anacronism' - or whatever that society is you're always plugging. but not quite. anyway, i think you should make badges. meeting would have to take place on an online forum - like lj. ok, you've sold me. so...how was your dirty weekend? i'm going to call you soon to chat about garage sale plans.
