I have this reputation for being a tree-hugging liberal and stuff, yadda, yadda, yadda. I've gotten used to being the "Lone Liberal". I've learned to hold my tongue (for the most part) and realized that not everyone believes the same things I do.

Dear Friend,

For more than three years, the government-sponsored genocide in Darfur has forced two-and-a-half million people to flee their homes and has taken the lives of over 400,000 men, women, and children.

While the international community successfully pushed for the signing of the Darfur Peace Agreement in May, not enough help has yet been provided to protect the innocent people of Darfur.

That is why we must intensify our campaign to press our political leaders to act decisively to stop this genocide. Will you join me?

In Darfur, civilians face possible murder, beatings, and rape on a daily basis. Families are stranded in refugee camps, often far from their villages and everything they have ever known. For them, daily life means waiting anxiously for aid and hoping to avoid violence.

The African Union peacekeepers in Darfur are woefully underfunded and incapable of fully protecting Darfur's victims. But until world leaders put enough pressure on the UN to send its own large multinational peacekeeping force, those African Union peacekeepers will remain the only line of defense for the people of Darfur.

Congress must therefore act with the Bush Administration to provide sufficient funding to protect Darfur's civilians and to keep the promises made by the Darfur Peace Agreement

Thank you.

Sincerely,

How many people have heard about the genocide in Darfur? I must admit, I never really heard much about it. Whenever the news was on when a lot of the conflict started, it was all about the michael jackson trial. the conflict was barely mentioned. I only got involved after talking to some church friends (they know who they are). I still don't really know a lot, but I looked up the situation on the site to inform myself and others. This info was taken directly from the Save Darfur Website.

More history on the Situation

On myspace and other social networking site, you get nasty bullitens and other junk that is absolutely meaningless. YOu also get the occasional "repost this is you are a Christian", which aren't bad, they just don't seem that sincere. Well, those are God's children being killed in massive numbers, and yet most of us don't even know its happening. I'm not asking you to repost this unless you feel moved and want to spread the word. I just want you to follow the link and send a letter to our Congress asking them to fund protection for the people in that troubled region. It will take less than a minute of your time and if enough people do this, maybe they'll take notice. We are future (and some of us current) voters. Use your voice and help save people. I've always been shy on talking out about my "Save the World" stuff, but I shouldn't have to be, so I might as well share news and info with everyone. I'll post more.
