Even though I never met him, I'm glad he's being remembered and honoured. That sort of honour is a part of his legacy, and a very public footnote to his life.

Damn it, this seems entirely wrong and obscene. Wasn't it just last week that we were having dinner with you and him?

Life does not suck. It is precious, and full of wonders. Cherish those you have, while they are with you.
Getting to spend a week in New York with my brother, two months before he died, turned out to have been an amazing gift.
