Over at
bibliotrope's place:
Here's a headline that could be improved by "scare" quotes:
Kansas School Board OKs Science Standards From the first paragraph/sentence: "...the state Board of Education approved science standards for public schools Tuesday that cast doubt on the theory of evolution."
Ergo, shouldn't that headline be "Kansas School Board OKs 'Science' Standards"?
I suggested it could also be:
"Kansas 'School Board' OKs 'Science' Standards"
This reminds me of something I sometimes do to tax the patience of my long-suffering wife, usually right after looking in the refrigerator. I say:
"*I* can't believe it's not butter!"
"I CAN'T believe it's not butter!"
"I can't BELIEVE it's not butter!"
"I can't believe IT'S not butter!"
Und so weiter...
