My Cellphone Provider Carefully Explains Customer Service

Nov 26, 2014 09:35

From the site of our cellphone company:

"We are removing the chat functionality to better assist you 24 hours a day.
Call 1-866-NNN-MMMM to speak to a live agent now."

Yes, I never feel better-assisted than when someone removes the chat functionality.

I hate it when a phone company realizes it's doing something that allows you to get things done without using the phone.

My former bank closed down the branch most convenient to me in order to serve me better.

In both cases, I suspect the statement translates as "Please don't let this reminder that profits are more important than customers annoy you enough that you'll take your business elsewhere."

The proper way to write modern phone numbers, in the arcane nomeclature of telephony, is NXX NXX XXXX. (This use to start with NYX until they did away with the restriction on having the 2nd digit of the area code as a 0 or 1.

But this specific case, it's probably 8Xx NXX XXXX.

I wonder if someone has created a new nomenclature to support toll-free numbering restrictures. Well, maybe there aren't any....
