Shrine of the Snowshoe Priest (and Coffee Shop) near L'Anse, Michigan. The bronze statue of Bishop Frederic Baraga holds a cross in one hand and snowshoes in the other, standing on a stainless-steel cloud. The shrine is high on a hill overlooking Lake Superior, so one can
see it a long way off. Father Baraga began his missionary work in the Upper Peninsula in the 1840s. Here is his
