For me, Donna is the Tenth Doctor's companion. I think this is why I'm not as excited about the upcoming series of specials (although once they start airing that will most likely change) and why I wasn't terribly bothered by the news of Tennant's departure. Then a question popped into my head: because I am not supreme dictator of the world and therefore am not able to force RTD, CT and DT into making Ten's last hurrah all about Donna, what sort of companion would make me more excited about the upcoming episodes? The answer (which I wish I could blame on alcohol, but I can't): why, a character I love from another show of course! Sure they'll never topple Donna from her perch at the top of my list of favorite companions (or actually have a snowball's chance in hell of happening), but they all make a great power play for the number two spot.

Blair Waldorf; Gossip Girl
What I loved about the Doctor and Donna's relationship was that she was all for taking the Doctor down a peg and was always horrified when people mistook them for a couple. Blair would no doubt carry on that fine tradition. And because my mind always sets this crossover circa Blair's Lord Marcus phase, it would have the added bonus of Chuck Bass trying to take down a Time Lord with an assist by a google-happy Eric van der Woodsen.

Jean-Luc Picard; Star Trek: The Next Generation
I freely admit that the RSC photos of Tennant and Stewart in Hamlet spawned this idea. But then I thought about it and came to the conclusion that Picard would be an awesome companion. It's not like it'll be the first time he's traveled through
time and
space. He also
saved the day with the help of a famous author. And think of the adventures that the two of them would get into when Q decides to visit his favorite Enterprise captain!

Carlton Lassiter; Psych
While the idea of any of the core cast traveling with the Doctor (especially Gus) amuses me to no end, I have a soft spot for Lassie. The poor guy could use a trip with the Doctor to cheer him up after having his detecting streak killed by a dinosaur.

Jack Bauer; 24
This one got stuck in my head after reading a 24 fic that had a small cameo by the Doctor. Sure, Jack would have to tone down his neck-snapping, DIY electroshocking ways, but the poor guy deserves to save the day without losing his wife/losing his job/having to fake his death to avoid being assassinated/being kidnapped/being put on trial for crimes against humanity/whatever horrible thing will happen to him at the end of his current worst day ever.

Rocco; Casanova (BBC)
While the idea of Henriette, Bellino or Grimani (who I have a soft spot for because he's the Tin Dog of the series) tooling around with the Doctor makes me smile, it's Rocco who I'd like to see most aboard the TARDIS. The guy basically was the companion to Casanova's non-alien and libido driven Doctor. He'd be the most unimpressed-with-the-Doctor companion ever (even more so than Donna) and it'd be hilarious.

Bobby Goren; Law & Order: Criminal Intent
Forget the Oncoming Storm, it'd be more the Oncoming Six Foot Something Pain in the Asses. Combine Goren's (pre-season 5) Columbo-esque keep-pestering-them-until-they-confess-just-to-get-rid-of-you style of detecting and the Doctor's general rudeness and verbal diarrhea and you'd have the galaxy’s most annoying (to criminals and people who hate Tennant and D'Onofrio's acting styles) crime fighting duo. But I'd watch it in a heartbeat.

MacGyver; MacGyver
MacGyver's pretty much the Tenth Doctor without a TARDIS but with a mullet. They both hate guns and can build pretty much anything with a bit of tin foil, string and some used chewing gum. And Mac does it with an unsoniced penknife. He'd totally be able to fix the chameleon circuit with stuff found in the Doctor's pockets.

Arabella French; He Knew He Was Right
This is pretty much because I loved the absurdity of their subplot in the series. The Doctor would mistake her for Agatha Christie and quickly realize his mistake, but the damage would be done. She would think he was her husband and his insistence that he isn't is some elaborate plot to get away from her. Somehow her sister, who is still hell bent on killing them both, would get involved. Wacky hijinks would ensue and eventually culminate in the Doctor regenerating into Matt Smith to get away from them.
