Oh Vampire Diaries, I didn't know that I had a teen drama hole in my fannish heart until I started watching you! Honestly I just watched it see what all the Klaus/Caroline fuss was about because they seemed like my kind of 'ship (doomed). Also, I was convinced that the YouTube compilations of their scenes had to be missing something because the 'ship seemed to come out of nowhere. Nope. As much as I adore them it's like the writers used a random pairing generator and decided to run with the results.
I was planning on watching seasons 3 and 4 in order, but due to technical difficulties ended up watching S4 first. My plan was to Gossip Girl my way through the series and just follow the Klaus/Caroline story but a funny thing happened and I sort of fell in love with everyone and as I worked my way backwards through the series I started watching more and more until I came to S2 and ended up watching it all and now I'm working my way forward again watching episodes in their entirety. (I do think I'm going to skip S1 because I'm fickle and love Caroline and her friendship with Elena and don't want flashbacks to Blair and Serena at their worst.)
Some random thoughts:
This show is way more violent and bloody than I thought it would be. I loved the S4 Christmas episode massacre and am amused that I have finally found a Christmas episode with more death and mayhem than a Doctor Who Christmas episode (I'm looking at you "Voyage of the Damned").
I'm sad that the Amazing Race for the Cure didn't involve a super awkward Stefan, Caroline, Klaus and Rebekah road trip in which Rebekah is her fantastically bitchy self, Caroline is just excited to be outside Mystic Falls, Klaus is secretly pleased to be trapped in a small space with his favorite people and Stefan just wants to drive the car off a cliff to (temporarily) end the suffering.
It amuses me that
Paul Wesley seems to have the same issues with Elena's death as I did. It's a beautifully filmed scene, but it makes no sense. Stefan could've saved them both!
I love the Originals and will check out the spin-off, but I will also forever be sad that it's not the adventures of Klaus, Rebekah, Elijah and Kol as they bicker and try to regain control of New Orleans while foiling Mikael's plans to kill Klaus all the while not knowing that Esther and Finn are trying to kill them all.
Also, can someone tell me why, despite the fact that I adore Joseph Morgan's face, whenever I read fanfic Klaus, in my head, is always either some random anonymous guy, Colin O'Donoghue (usually in fics where Klaus keeps on insisting he's a gentleman) or Sebastian Roché circa his
first episode of Law & Order as C-Squared. It’s really weird.
