The short version: I loved it!
I quite liked concentrated Torchwood. While a full fourth series would be wonderful, I wouldn't say "no" to another week long Torchwood event as a series. I may actually prefer it. And if Torchwood doesn't get renewed, I think Children of Earth was a fantastic Torchwood-y finale.
Thank you RTD for answering the not quite often asked question of "what would happen if Jack got blown to bits?" The answer: he'd be fine, but it wouldn't be pretty.
There was some major actor recognition FAIL on my part: I spent Days 1-4 of Children of Earth wondering where I had seen Peter Capaldi before. Did he play a villain in something else I recently watched? Is he one of those "Hey! It's that guy!" guys? Is it that he looks like an older version of Stephen Campbell Moore? What has Stephen Campbell Moore been up to? Then while waiting to for Day 5, I decided to hit the IMDb to get some answers.
Oops. Sorry Peter Capaldi!
Did anyone else have Ten and Rose flashbacks when it came to Jack and Ianto? I am now 100% convinced that RTD's Casanova = Doctor Who = Torchwood. He's just changing the names depending on the show.
Children of Earth Day 4 = 24 Day 5:
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
And speaking of 24, Jack Harkness + Jack Bauer + The Doctor. An awesome and awesomely depressing Team TARDIS! Each week they'd save whomever/whatever needs saving, but there'd be some tragic twist at the end for one of them. That series' finale would be the most depressing finale of all time.
Frobisher's end? Sad, dramatic, but sort of predictable. Not so predictable: Jack sacrificing his own grandson and said grandson dying and staying dead. I never thought I'd see that and that sort of puts RTD back in my good books. (Well, until Christmas, then we'll most likely be on the outs again.)
On a more morbid note, did anyone else think, "Are we actually going to see a child explode on TV?"
Loved the dramatic Torchwood music, even when there was no need for it.
Really loved the Team Torchwood as master criminals montage. Oh Jack, running away like that isn't suspicious at all!
Anyone else think: "Harriet Jones. MP for Flydale North Prime Minster." Whenever they heard "Lois. Lois Habiba." I was half expecting her to whip out ID each time.
While RTD is turning Jack into the tenth Doctor in a "Woe is Me, For I Live With Tons of Angst" sort of way, I swear he's using the Doctor to give Gwen fashion cues. She's even got her own sonic screwdriver-like device!
So I'm guessing Gray is now blown to smithereens, but what happened to the pterodactyl? Say it's okay RTD!
Also, where's the Torchwood SUV now? Did it get chop-shopped?
