All of this came from wondering how John was going to decide that it was okay to enjoy his time as a cat, because they certainly didn't stick around long enough to find out from Gata'nah.

For John to listen to Kate, really listen, they'd have to have some sort of trust relationship. And as I said to someone earlier, I get pictures when I am thinking of a fic, and the first one I got was John curling up primly in the corner of the sofa. The next was John - human John - and Kate trying to out stubborn one another. I think the progression to her being patient and calm and just sitting there being silently pleasant would be, "Ha, silent treatment! Two can play that game!" and then as the minutes slowly ticked by, it would become more and more unnerving and finally, at the end of the session of pleasantly smiling and making various remarks with their eyebrows at one another, John would stand, shake her hand and smirk, "Just like talking to my Dad; piece of cake." Then he and she'd say sweetly, "Have a seat, Major, the clock behind me is fast, we actually have ten more minutes, and he'd thunk down, huffing but also looking at her in admiration, because, wow, yet another woman who can kick his ass without breaking a sweat.

Or something like that.

Oh, and the naming Kate's cat Minka? That comes from the actress Minka Kelly, who I found terribly annoying in "Friday Night Lights," and said to my husband, "What kind of name is Minka? It sounds like something you'd name a cat. "
