Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means ( Read more... )

Ah, my English Lit/Theatre geek comes out to play. Hmm, I just noticed I use the UK/Canada spelling of theatre in stead of the American "theater." Oh my, that just looks wrong.

Ah, me first fic. Terribly indulgent and there are some places that I feel like I should reign in, but still, a warm place in my heart for this one.

Those lines from As You Like It have always given me a shiver of pleasure. There's so many layers going on, and, well, it depends on your reading of it, really. You could say, "Just as high as my heart," matter of factly, with a hand at mid-chest level. Or you could say it with the same motions but realizing the - to pull a quote from Much Ado - double meaning. Or more than double, for she is as tall as (his heart) mid-chest, she has high stature in his heart and she has filled him up to the heart.

Like I said, done right, quite shivery. And I can hear Giles say it with just the right amount of throatiness.

I also love the image of Buffy getting bored with fashion magazines and grabbing a book off of Dawn's stash to read on the plane and then being stuck on the plane with this highbrow thing and then frowning at it mightily because it wasn't going to beat her...and before she knew it, she was engrossed.

Oh, and the "Who Doesn't Love Denzel" is a sneaky nod to Angel, the episode "First Impressions."
