Gothenburg, Sweden, October 12, 2011 - Gothenburg Beachvolley Club will unveil the world’s largest indoor beach volleyball facility, the SEFA Beach Center, on November 5 and 6 with 2009 world champion and 2011 European champion Jonas Reckermann from Germany and 2004 Athens Olympic Games silver medallist Javier Bosma of Spain carrying out proceedings in Sweden.
The complex will include 16 courts, a gym, a restaurant, a café and a relax area for the club, which boasts over 1,700 members.
The project was the fream of SEFA CEO Ulf Norman who spearheaded the build.
“It’s a dream coming true for GBC but I believe that this is just the beginning of a new era for beach volleyball in Sweden and hopefully also internationally,” he said. “It’s been lots and lots of hard work. And now, being just weeks away from the dream being true, it feels fantastic. Over the years beach volleyball in Gothenburg has developed dramatically and this huge investment is only possible due to a constant increase in interest for the sport from new players, business clients, sponsors and fans.”
Building started at the beginning of March earlier this year and will be finalized in late October. Reckermann, who is returning after he and partner Julius Brink sealed silver at the Agadir Open, the final stop of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour 2011, said he was looking forward to the opening.
“It’s a great honour for me being invited to this opening event,” the 2009 World Tour champion said. “We have some nice indoor beach centres in Germany, but not this big.”
