Tales of Futurama

Always interesting to read about alternative suburbias. The one that we happen to be stuck with today was just one out of several proposals that was put forth for regional and decentralised urbanism. The one that we are stuck with today was also, incidently, based on the urban planning/design principles of Bill Geddes, contemporary of Wright, who was was promoted and sponsored by General Motors at the height of the Great Depression. Of course, Geddes' ideas haven't been totally adopted, but it is generally understood that his ideas, as opposed to others, are the most evident in today's North America. Futurama really did become the future.

I'll follow up with a longer post about this sometime soon.

urban design, science fiction?, landscape, architecture
