I've discovered the reason...
That management wants to keep pay rate information safe from their employees. Could you imagine the stir when someone who's been in a position for a number of years learns that a new person off the street makes more money (or almost as much) than they do? Yeah- fireworks galore. Well, I've only been here for a few months, and since my pay was messed up today I was talking to my manager to let him know. Evidently someone heard me, and now the girls are a little...hostile towards me.
No one's really said anything flat-out, but the looks and the whispers tell it all. And I heard someone bitching in the hall about their pay, with a glance cut my way. Good times...
