This break has been interesting, to say the least.
Christmas at the toystore was hectic and busy (as usual) but fun and comforting to be back there none the less. I feel really lucky to have had a job that I can keep going back to and fit right in with no adjustment time when I go back. And there is no shortage of laughter and amusement when I'm there, which is so uncommon to find in work settings. This season I got to know Justin and Ashley a lot better, which made work a lot more fun as well. They're good kids.
This was the first time ever that Ben wasn't home for christmas. It didn't put a huge damper on the holiday, but it was really noticeable how much less spirited my mom was because of it. I like to look at it with the perspective that we've been incredibly lucky to have him here for every holiday so far, because most families with people in the armed services don't ever get to celebrate holidays together once the person enlists. Even though we missed him a lot, it was one of those inevitable things that we would have had to face sooner or later...
On another front, Frank and I are really broken up now. It was a long process getting there, and it's been a tough adjustment to make, but sometimes that's just how it happens. In some ways, I'm thankful to know exactly what our status is starting off the semester, rather than hanging in limbo like we had been for a while now. With time I think everything will be okay.
It's been really great seeing friends over this break, even if just in small little spurts. Seeing April before she went off on her Norwegian adventure was lovely.... and it reaffirms the fact that with some people, it doesn't matter how often you talk when you're apart, because once you see each other again you can pick up like you never left off. Also, seeing the girls a few nights ago was fantastic. It had been soooo long since I'd seen LR, and Shelly made it back from Oxford which was a big surprise. Plus planning a spring break trip to Philly to visit Beccaroo is super exciting.
New Years was spent, somewhat predictably, at Kacey's - and predictable isn't always so bad. Some of the usual crowd were there, and some new people too. All in all, a good way to ring in the new year, in spite of earlier events that could have really ruined the night.
Spending time with the family has been great, too. Molly is growing up so fast and I couldn't be prouder of her. She's fantastically smart, and has the best sense of humor. Every time I come home I'm amazed by how much she's grown (literally and figuratively...she's almost as tall as me now!) and what a great kid she's growing up to be.
I know there's still one week left, but it will be spent mostly working and it feels like break is coming quickly to a close. It's been probably one of the better breaks of school, despite some sad things and big changes happening. I'm definitly excited for the new semester, and the chance to really put things back together and have a really successful and enjoyable semester.
