The (Somewhat) Waste of a Day

Jan 25, 2008 12:18

I woke up at almost 4 today. In the afternoon. The catholic guilt is kicking in about now. I don't even have a good excuse: "I was totally ripping it up at (insert famous Prague club here-Roxy, Radost etc)." Nope. I merely kept getting woken up by the drunken stumblings of people in the suite. Lights are rather annoying.

Anyway, so I atleast got out of bed quickly, and left my sleepy stirrings on the top bunk bed and explored my neighborhood. On my attempt at adventure in the forest of central europe, I noticed two things. One, so many things are kept behind counters. Not even slightly taboo things like condoms or smokes. Just like cleaning products and other ordinary things. Supposedly this is quite common because shoplifting is more prevalent here. Personally I think it's crap. Who goes to steal toilet bowl cleaner? I'm probably just a spoiled American. But I like to touch and compare things while I shop. It makes me miss capitalism a wee bit. Oh Adam Smith how you spoil me.

The second thing I noticed: while I was walking down the street I was blinded by a flash of light. I turn back and notice there's a camera attached to a stoplight! I'm quite sure I've heard of these things in America perhaps for traffic accidents but it appeared to me very focused on the sidewalk. It's like I'm in an Orwellian nightmare. The communists are still around lurking at every corner trying to watch the doings of the young American ( that's right-cue the David Bowie song right here).
