By far, the crown jewel of our trip was our stay at the all-inclusive island resort on Orpheus Island in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef. We were treated like absolute royalty on what can only be described as paradise on earth. 6 days and 5 nights was FAR to short a time to have subjected ourselves to this experience, but we know better next time!!
A pic of the island from above while circling for a water landing in a cool amphibious aircraft (Fantasy Island style)!
Scott and I standing on the floating platform where the plane landed a few hundred feet from shore
Scott and I enjoying lunch under the shade of palm trees with a view of the sandy bay that hosts the resort on this otherwise uninhabited island
Scott at the top of a lookout point that looks back down on the resort bay as well as the bay on the opposite side of the island, which is kind of shown here
On the one morning that it rained for a few hours, we took a walk to yet another lookout peak down to a bay on the opposite side of the island called "Picnic Bay" with several other small islands visible a short distance away. Scott, of course, completes the amazing beauty of the scene ;)
Every evening we would lay out on the lounge chairs or in the hammocks along the grass above the beach and watch the sunset. We took pictures every time. This is my favorite
That picture was so perfect I thought it would be difficult to believe I was there taking it...so I found a way to personalize the visual I had every night
Of course, this pic really provides the proof ;)
If you requested it, the chef would prepare you a picnic basket lunch full of crab legs, lobster tail, shrimp, sandwhich meats, salad and a bottle of champaigne. The activities staff would then load your basket into a small dingy and you could take the boat to any of 6 different private beaches on the island without another soul in sight. We took three picnic lunches over the course of the week. This is a pic of Scott with the dingy in the background while we lunched at "Big Sandy" Beach. If you're curious, yes we did indulge in a little "deserted island beach" dessert afterwards, if you get my meaning :)
While I drove the boat, Scott caught some rays on the way back from the picnic...one of the most beautiful sights of any that I beheld on that island.
On our final morning on the island, Scott and I were lounging and enjoying the view of the ocean one last time, when the bartender brought us champaigne and orange juice for mimosas to complete the perfection of the morning
