We took the day off from work and school yesterday because Bea has been a bit of a wreck. She won't eat and won't drink pretty much anything. Her last meal of substance was on Monday morning - small piece of banana bread. I originally thought she caught the virus that's been running rampant around here - it's a cold/cough/stomach amalgam that is knocking people flat (I've had the cold/cough version for about 3.5 weeks now). But last night, I checked her gums (all of them, not just the front part she usually lets me look at) and lo and behold, there's part of her right top molar peeking through! No wonder the poor kid has been so disastrous lately - she must be in a lot of pain.
Called the doctor yesterday when I thought it was a virus and they gave me the typical advice of making sure she was drinking enough fluids. So I spent an HOUR yesterday feeding her a Pedialyte popsicle (she'll take one lick at a time and makes me hold it for her) and spent the rest of the day desperately trying to squirt Pedialyte, water, Gatorade, grape juice, etc into her mouth with a medicine dropper. ugh. I think she had a grand total of maybe 5 oz of liquid all day yesterday. Plus I nursed her twice. Not sure if she's just being stubborn or if she's in too much pain to drink (?) but I'm getting a little panicky that she's going to get dehydrated.
Sent her to school today b/c aside from the eating/drinking she's been her usual fun self. We had a great time yesterday at the park playing on the swings and she was happy to play at home the rest of the day. She also slept through until 6:30 this morning. Just no food and nothing to drink.
I'm off to visit her at school in about an hour, then I think I'll call the doctor again to see if they have any new suggestions. She has an appointment on Friday for her flu shot, maybe I'll move it up so they can check her out.
My poor baby!
