My desk phone rang a few minutes ago. That's pretty unusual all by itself; it's only happened a handfull of times ever (in a coupld of years). I looked in surprise at the phone, which displayed the caller as "Reception." We don't have a reception desk in this building (I'm on a first name basis with the UPS delivery driver), so it took my brain a moment to realize that the call was coming from the main campus. Which is nearly an hour away.
It does get weirder. And that's not even including the part where I needed two explanations of how to accept a call transfer.
So somebody from Microsoft called the company with my name but not my extension number, to talk to me about Sharepoint. Microsoft? Sharepoint? Several things went through my head, the main one being that April Fools' Day is over. But the caller turned out to be as confused I was about why an embedded systems driver engineer was supposed to be a contact for enterprise content management. Eventually I just suggested calling back the main number and asking for IT.
