so cracky, and yet so AWESOME

Look, I am NOT EVEN SURE WHERE THIS IS COMING FROM.

Basically, imagine Hadrian's wall, only bigger, stronger, and more... magic-y. Like, centaurs and griffins and such on both sides. And there's the demi-gods, mostly just called the Small Gods, of which there are hundreds, but the most important one on the wall is The Lady of The Wall, who was a very real person some fifty or sixty years back. Something she did (I think somehow she used Old Magic to basically imbue the entire goddamn Wall with her spirit and magic and then died) made her into a Small God in the people's eyes, and they pray to her a lot.

I think basically this is an AU of Roman Britain, where all the world has all these crazy magical creatures. And as before, Rome came to a halt here at the Wall At the North, because - well, because. I'll explain it sometime. I don't even really have characters, except for a girl and perhaps her older brother (older by probably eight or nine years). He's a soldier on the Wall, and she lives on it with her mother, and look, I DON'T EVEN KNOW.

I even have an opening paragraph-ish thing. WEIRD.

"The Wall at the North stretched from one end of Britain to the other, from Wallsend-East to Wallsend-West. It was the separating line, the place that said 'here ends the Roman Empire.' Beyond the Wall were the Little Painted People, the Picts of the North, with their Old Magic and their wild eyes. Behind the Wall, protected by it, were the legions of Rome, their families, an entire people watching the darkness, half-expecting it to bring their doom.

Behind the Wall, there was only New Magic, the magic of small tricks and parties. Beyond the Wall there was the Old Magic, magic that could swallow up whole legions and build hills of their bones.

The Wall kept the line of their lives distinct, and the Lady of the Wall kept the Wall."
