Nick is thrilled about his new toupée!
I took Kevin to the pianos (which he was too scared to play for fear of being caught). He looked nervous the whole time we were at VU. I kept saying, "Just look like you belong here." Faking stuff is one of the most useful skills you can have. Our adventure took us to the desolate KB Toys, which had already been scavenged, and then to the casino. I wanted to take pictures, but I feel like they could never represent the actual experience. When we went to the gates and stopped to get carded, the gatekeepers seemed so suspicious that I thought we'd be carted off to a secret room straight away. They asked us each how old we were, and if Kevin had any relatives who worked there. Then they both wished us luck and let us in. It was so bright and loud, and it reminded me of everything I've seen about Japan in movies. There was contemporary music playing, but there was strange music playing on top of it (which may have been all of the machines making noise). The people there were all over 40, and they all sat dazed in front of their machines, not even noticing us walking around. The only person who looked at me was a waitress. Maybe it's the music and the lights, or maybe it's some weird subliminal messages being played behind the music, but I really felt like it entranced me too. I felt so fucked up, even after we left. Next time I want to sit at a poker table and gesture as though I am signaling someone. I want to go to the other casinos because Blue Chip wasn't as big as I expected. And I want to see if they're as scary as Blue Chip was.
Whiteout!!
