limelight of your eye

I have cast my life-line behind my shoulder
without hook and string so I might be lighter
just in case I have to move faster.

I hitched a ride with a wingless dove in hopes
of seeing the world from a-high and hovering...
Then..., oh such a childish folly!
My feet moved like twisted twigs in water.

I oriented myself with the drunken rousters who
sailed south in recycled rickety wooden ships
for the shinning beacon which once
so enchantedly burned in the eyes of royalty and children
was swallowed deep down in the throat of the Southwestern sea.

When I tried to look and see the light I saw only artificial luster.
The dizzying circulation of the lighthouse, the plastering shimmer
of the silver screen. eyes glazed over with dirty water and spoiled wine.
Perhaps I was just blinded by my fear are my lenses so strong as
to filter the light of lights? Perhaps I am near-sighted. Perhaps I am
in-sided. Should I be looking for darkness rather than light? Perhaps,
I should be content with a kaleidoscope of colors.

scratched and dingy diamonds reflect only pinks, yellows, reds and violets.
take just a few paces back and a rainbow will appear in the limelight of your eye.
