Part 11:
A dram of poison, such soon-speeding gear/ As will disperse itself through all the veins
... for my mind misgives
Some consequence yet hanging in the stars
Shall bitterly begin his fearful date
With this night's revels and expire the term
Of a despised life closed in my breast
By some vile forfeit of untimely death.
From Romeo & Juliet
Jaejoong and I fall asleep on the couch. He spent a lot of time running his hands through my now fried hair. It’s not that bad. After Heechul cut it a little more stylishly.
Early in the morning, I jerk awake to clattering. Jaejoong is awake too, and his hand covers my mouth. I freeze and listen. Everything is dark.
“Changmin,” Jaejoong whispers.
Someone grunts, and finally a light goes on.
Blood is pouring from a wound on Changmin’s head.
“Changmin!” Jaejoong shouts and pushes me off him. I land on the ground with a thunk. Slightly dazed, I turn, and see Jaejoong with his shirt pressing against Changmin’s head.
“Su-ah, go get Leeteuk. Now. Scream, whatever, wake everyone up. Stay with me, Min, come on.”
“No good,” he mutters. “No … no good. Ambushed.”
My eyes widen and Jaejoong looks at me again, and I jump up and start shouting for Leeteuk. I don’t know what room he sleeps in, so I run up and down the halls pounding on doors. There are grumbles and curses, but as soon as I start saying Changmin was attacked, those guys shut up and there is a rush to the living room. Yunho rockets past me so fast that I almost fall and I grab the stair rail and still stumble down a few steps and my feet slide out from under me and I land hard on a stair near the ground floor.
People ask Changmin what happened, but he’s still delirious.
Ryeowook tells them to shut up. “We need to get him downstairs.”
Leeteuk holds up his hand. “Just a second, Wookie.” He kneels in front of Changmin and snaps his fingers.
Changmin pouts but his eyes obviously focus on Leeteuk.
“Where were you attacked?” Leeteuk asks.
Changmin’s face scrunches up, like he’s thinking and then he says, “Lab.”
“Did they follow you here?”
Changmin shakes his head. “Hard with no skin.”
“What?”
Changmin shivers. “No skin. Chemicals. Ate them.”
“Well, that’s disgusting,” Heechul mutters.
“So gross.” Changmin nods frantically. His eyes shut and he moans.
Leeteuk sighs. “But they didn’t follow you?”
“Nope. Can’t without skin.”
“Get him downstairs,” Leeteuk says.
Jaejoong lifts Changmin up, and Siwon is there to support him.
“Oh fuck,” Changmin mutters, face paling.
Kyuhyun is quick to grab the nearest trash can and barely gets it under Changmin’s face before he’s throwing up.
“He definitely has a concussion,” Ryeowook says.
Everything is quiet and tense while they lead a muttering, complaining Changmin downstairs. Yunho is sitting on the couch, face pale, immobile.
Yoochun sits next to him and touches his knee. He flinches and looks over at him.
“Don’t worry too much,” Yoochun says. “You were injured worse than Changmin is.”
Yunho nodded. “Doesn’t help, but thanks for trying.”
Yoochun grins.
“What happened?” Leeteuk asks. “Last I heard, Changmin was fucking you silly, and now all of a sudden, he’s injured.”
Yunho shrugs. “He had an idea, and he knew he couldn’t run the experiment here, so he left. I made sure he had his cell phone, and I tried to get him to wait, but you know how Changmin is when he has an idea.”
Leeteuk stands and paces the room. “Yoochun, Heechul. Contact EunHae, right now. Tell them to get back here as soon as possible.”
He looks at Heechul, and Heechul rolls his eyes and says, “No.”
“But-”
“We’re still safe here, and I am not groveling at Kangta’s feet, okay?”
Leeteuk sighs. “Are we still safe here?”
More than one set of eyes flicks over at me, and I know if Jaejoong were there he’d have stood up to my defense.
I swallow nervously.
Leeteuk sighs again. “It’s hard not to suspect you, Junsu.”
“I know. I’m sorry that I can’t do anything to prove my innocence.”
“You could leave,” Kyuhyun snaps.
Leeteuk glares at him. “And how would that help?”
“You’re right. He knows where we are. I guess we’ll kill him.”
Everyone protests that.
“What? Everything went to shit when he got here.”
“It’s just a coincidence,” Leeteuk says.
Kyuhyun shakes his head. “No. It can’t be. We were just fine here.”
“No, we weren’t,” Heechul says. “The first morning he was here was the mandatory press conference with Sungmin. There was already pressure on us.”
Kyuhyun turns around, facing the hologram. Everyone looks at Leeteuk. He rubs his eyes and then moves to him. Kyuhyun flinches when Leeteuk touches him, but he doesn’t move away. Leeteuk wraps his arms around his lover’s waist and lays his head on his shoulder.
A tense thirty seconds pass, and then Kyuhyun inhales deeply. “Sorry, Junsu.”
“I understand,” I reply just as softly.
Kyuhyun nods and some of the tension evaporates. Leeteuk continues to hold him but turns so he can glare at everyone else. I just barely met him, but I know what that means, What the hell are you staring at?
Heechul snorts and flips his hair. “I’m going back to bed.”
“Guess that means I am too,” Yoochun says.
“No. You are going to wash the maknae off you. Gross.”
Yoochun looks down at his clothes and makes a face at the blood stains. “Fine, fine.”
The two of them head upstairs.
“Call Eunhae first,” Leeteuk reminds them.
Heechul flips him off.
Leeteuk presses a kiss to Kyuhyun’s neck and then moves away from him and sits next to Yunho. That seems to jerk Yunho alert and he’s gone in a rush of his long hair, and into the kitchen.
Kyuhyun follows after another moment, and I am left with Leeteuk in the living room.
Leeteuk leans back against the couch, eyes shut. For the first time since I met him, he actually looks thirty years old. He pats the couch next to him and I rise from the stairs and sit down.
“I know you’re not a spy,” he says. “This is all very circumstantial. I’m going to send you and Yoochun out again tomorrow. We need to find out who knows about us.”
“How?” I ask.
Leeteuk shrugs. “I don’t know. You’re a good kid, Junsu. I’m glad Jaejoong met you and brought you here.”
“Me, too.”
Leeteuk stands up and rubs his face with his hands. He heads upstairs.
I lay on the couch, tired and confused. None of these men trust me. None of them but Jaejoong. They might say they do, but they really don’t. Not that I blame them. Their lives have been crazy since I showed up.

When I wake up, there is a blanket over me, and Jaejoong is sitting on the floor, head against the couch. The television is on, but silenced, and Jaejoong is reading the closed captions. I read a few sentences and quickly learn about the mess found in the lab where Changmin works, the bodies that were found and that Changmin is assumed to have been one of them.
I run my fingers through Jaejoong’s hair. He turns his head and smiles. I lean down and kiss his lips.
“How’s Changmin?”
“Insufferable, as usual. Yunho strapped him in his bed to keep him from getting up.”
I smile. “At least he’ll live.”
“Yeah.”
“Are EunHae okay?”
“Yeah. They’re upstairs sleeping.”
“So what happens now?”
Jaejoong sighs. “No more Frog Piss, that’s for certain. EunHae asked around a few places, and all of our contacts have either been killed or been questioned by authorities.”
“That’s okay, though,” I whisper. I rub my fingers lightly under his hair, along his black baseCODE. “It just means you can’t go into the city, and then I don’t have to worry about you being found.”
Jaejoong snorts. “It means we’re trapped and they’re slowly closing in on us. Let’s not talk about it. It’s all Leeteuk is talking about.”
I nod and kiss him again.
“Are you hungry?” Jaejoong whispers. “I was about to make breakfast.”
“Yeah. I need to shower.”
“Hm, maybe breakfast can wait.” Our lips are only a breath apart.
“No, it can’t,” Yunho says from the doorway. “Changmin is demanding food.”
“Such a fucking princess,” Jaejoong mutters but kisses me anyway, a slow press of lips and tangle of tongues that leaves my eyes fluttering and my heart pulsating.
My smile is loopy when he pulls away.
“I love you,” Jaejoong whispers and brushes our noses together.
“I love you.”
After one more kiss, Jaejoong pushes his hands into the couch and stands up. He stretches and my hands slip up and under his shirt, fingertips trailing over his skin. He shivers and smiles down at me. Last second, he leans over me and kisses me again. He leaves and goes into the kitchen.
I stretch and ponder going back to sleep on the plush couch. But I feel icky and dirty, and a shower wins. There are shouting voices coming from a room, and I recognize Leeteuk and Kyuhyun. On our floor, the shouting is different and that makes me smile. Donghae is almost as vocal as Heechul is.
I shower quickly, wincing at the drag on my freshly dyed hair. It’s cut funny, and I remind myself not to trust Heechul with my hair ever again. There isn’t much I can do with it except put in too much gel and poof it up in the front.
“Are you trying to look good enough to fuck?” Yoochun asks behind me.
I meet his eyes through the mirror and shrug. “It’s your boyfriend’s fault my hair looks like this.”
“Too true. He’s amazing, isn’t he?”
“I guess.”
“But it’s not Heechul’s fault that you’re standing in the bathroom with only a towel wrapped around your waist.”
“I just showered, get over it.”
Yoochun laughs and then comes into the bathroom. “Turn around.”
“Why?”
“Just do it.”
I sigh and turn around. Yoochun does something to my hair, and then pulls what looks like a pencil out of little bag.
“What … Yoochun!”
“Don’t be a baby. Come on. You’ll look hot.”
“I thought I already did look hot.”
Yoochun smiles. “Consider this an improvement on perfection.”
I sigh and shut my eyes and let him put makeup on my face. “Speaking of perfection, where is Heechul?”
“Tied up. Probably passed out by now.”
“You two … you …” I huff and blush.
Yoochun smiles again. “Yes, we like it. You should try it. Jaejoong is incredibly possessive. You should let yourself experiment in the bedroom with that.”
“How?” I ask.
Yoochun thinks and then nods. “Jaejoong won’t do it on his own. He’s too afraid to hurt you, or do something you won’t like, or somehow push you away. I can always help set you up, but you probably won’t be comfortable with that, and given access to that ass, I may end up fucking it. So that’s a bad idea.”
“Oh god, Yoochun,” I cover my face in my hands trying to rid myself of the image of Yoochun fucking me.
Yoochun laughs and pulls my hands down so he can finish my face. “Just do something simple at first. Tie your hands to the headboard with a few neck ties. That’s easy to do on your own. And then Jaejoong can walk in on you and fuck you silly.”
I bite my lower lip and then nod. “I can do that.”
“Lucky Jaejoong. All finished.”
Yoochun spins me around and I gape at my reflection. He’s outlined my eyes in black, softened my skin a shade with powder and dabbed clear, shimmery gloss on my lips.
“Sexy,” Yoochun says and gropes my ass, hands sliding on my hips.
I twist away from him, shaking my finger at him.
“Can’t blame me,” he said.
I grin. “Thanks, Yoochun-hyung.”
I go into our room and shut the door. I think about what Yoochun said and decide that I can’t do it now, I don’t know how long until Jaejoong is going to come up to bed. And I’m really hungry.
I pull on a pair of jeans that are a little tight, and then a button up shirt. I don’t want to accidentally ruin my hair or the makeup by pulling on a t-shirt. Barefoot, I head to the kitchen.
EunHae are cuddled on the couch and they both stare at me in shock and then Eunhyuk whistles.
“Looking good, Junsu,” Donghae says.
“Thanks.” I walk into the kitchen, and Jaejoong looks at me and drops whatever is in his hands.
“Holy shit,” Yunho mutters.
Jaejoong looks away from me only long enough to slap the back of his best friend’s head, and then he’s across the kitchen, and I’m wrapped up in his arms.
“What the hell?” he practically growls.
“Blame Yoochun,” I say with a laugh.
“God damn it, you’re … fuck … I …”
I put my hands on his shoulders and push him away. He frowns, but steps back. “I’m hungry.”
Jaejoong nods, shuts his eyes and takes a deep breath of control. I run my hand over his cheek, and then pull him forward and kiss him. He moans, hands wrapping around my waist.
“How many times do I have to tell you two not to make out in the kitchen?” Leeteuk says.
I pull away from Jaejoong and smile at him.
“Looking like that, I don’t really blame Jaejoong,” Leeteuk says, “but you have a bed for that.”
Kyuhyun speeds through the kitchen, not looking at anyone and goes downstairs.
Leeteuk ignores our questioning looks and sits down. I sit next to him, and Jaejoong goes to the stove to finish our breakfast.
After another moment, those who had been downstairs come upstairs, except for Changmin. EunHae come in from the other room followed by a grease-covered Siwon. He drops something in the middle of the table.
“What is that?” Donghae asks.
“Some kind of tracking device,” Siwon answers.
“What?” Leeteuk asks.
“I don’t know. I’m going to go have to talk to some people in the city. This was on the car I just brought. The other one doesn’t have one. I checked everything.”
“A tracking device,” Eunhyuk says. “So they know where we are?”
Leeteuk rolls his eyes at Heechul. “The children never trust me.”
“That’s because you don’t tell them anything,” Heechul says.
“They might know the general area of where we are but this place and the land surrounding it is under a dead zone. There are sensors and other electronic equipment set up around it that keep us free and clear. Their tracking sensor doesn’t work past a certain point on the highway.”
They stare at Leeteuk in shock, and then Kyuhyun asks, “Well, can’t they see this empty block of space, close it off, and …”
“It doesn’t work that way,” Leeteuk says. “The boundary for it constantly changes, and it messes with their systems. I can’t say that I understand it completely, but it’s still working.”
When no one says anything still, Leeteuk continues, “Kangin set it up when we first ran away. There is a larger group of people with black baseCODEs that live further out in the country. If we wanted, we could leave here and join them, but I decided this had to stop. So Kangin and I built this place, and furnished it. Kangta wasn’t happy, but with what I want to do, we have to be close to the city.”
“You’re all a bunch of fuckers,” Sungmin says, sarcastic and cruel. “Did you ever stop to think that not everyone wants to rebel?”
“So you want to die in two years?” Kyuhyun asks.
“Better than being here.”
“MinMin,” Kyuhyun starts but Sungmin cuts his off with a look. He stands up, but he’s still slightly off balance though because of his arm and he stumbles. Kyuhyun quickly supports him, grabbing his uninjured arm.
“Let me go,” Sungmin says, voice tight.
“I’m just-“
“Let me go!”
Kyuhyun sighs but releases his arm. Leeteuk frowns at Sungmin’s back as he heads to the living room and holds out his hand for Kyuhyun. He takes it with another sigh, and they all sit in silence.
“We need to find out who is after us, and how high up the knowledge goes,” Siwon says.
“Do you really think we’re the only group of people with black baseCODEs?” Yunho asks.
Leeteuk shrugs. “Honestly? No. But how do we contact them or even find out how many there are? Last we talked to Kangta, he had about twenty in his compound.”
“So now what?” Jaejoong asks.
“No more cars,” he says. “We’ll survive with the two we have. Discreet searches around the city by those with green baseCODEs. Yes, including Junsu.”
Jaejoong makes a face, but doesn’t protest.
