Author Note: I haven’t written a fan fiction for at least 3 years, so please be kind. While watching the episode, I couldn’t help but think that Jesse was trying to hit on Josh. I wasn’t exactly sure how to end this, but I think it works (kinda). Oh, and Aidan and Josh aren’t in a relationship yet in this. ;)
Aidan surveyed the room, arms crossed and leaning against the kitchen doorframe. Everyone living in a three mile radius was stuffed into their living room, and the incessant chatter was beginning to get to Aidan and his sensitive ears. He automatically searched for his friends, finding Sally sitting alone on one of the couches with her back turned away from everyone. He had more difficulty seeking out Josh, but soon spotted him in the back of the crowd, chatting with a shorter guy who was eagerly leaning in, and… wait. Was that his hand on Josh’s arm?
Aidan’s eyes narrowed, body tensing and fangs sprouting out, and he had to physically stop himself from hissing out loud. Ever since he had found Josh unconscious in a pool of his own blood in the forest, he had been quite protective of his friend, including social situations. Josh seemed to stumble over his own thoughts around other people, and usually put his foot in mouth and obsess about it long afterwards. Aidan felt the need to protect him from everything and anything, and he did not like this stranger one bit.
Aidan pushed off of the doorframe, weaving in and out of the crowd and stalking towards the pair. Josh was nodding his head and smiling, a smile that Aidan had seen on hundreds of people he had chatted up during his existence…the smile of someone happy to get noticed, to have attention on them that they usually didn’t have. This struck Aidan for some reason, his steps faltering for a moment before he regained his composure. The guy was eyeing Josh, and Aidan wouldn’t have another moment of it. Time to make his presence known.
“Hey guys, what’s up?” Aidan asked, casually draping his arm over Josh’s shoulders, staring resolutely at the new guy. He felt Josh’s head jerk up, twisting his head so he could look at Aidan properly, his body stiffening at the unpredicted touch. Aidan stared straight ahead, his eyes glinting with challenge at the guy who suddenly was shuffling his feet and looking down.
“Uh, nothing much. I was just leaving actually. See ya, Josh,” the man mumbled, looking thoroughly uncomfortable and fleeing the moment he finished his sentence. There was a slightly awkward silence following his exit, where Aidan didn’t remove his arm, and Josh didn’t pull away. Suddenly, Josh relaxed, and leaned back into Aidan’s chest.
“What was that?”
Aidan was relieved to notice that Josh didn’t sound angry or upset, just a little…amused?
He glanced down, and saw Josh smiling back up at him.
