A great weekend to remember

Well, I left Friday night about 7 from work and I just got back last night at midnight. I. Am. TIRED.

This weekend was the coronation event in the Ocala National Forest. I had a blast. Yes if you pick it apart there were a lot of sucky elements involved. The heat and humidity was a big one. It looked like there was a light fog over everything, Saturday it reached 101 on the lyst field. So yeah, you can bet how much fighting went on. Pretty much this event seemed to be a party event. You went to live the life, but mainly to see old friends or make new ones.

Because of the heat (and the sad fact that the fights were timed for the middle of it) the hours between 11 and 3 were camp naptime. It worked out well actually.

The other sucky big thing was the rain. It rained at least briefly every day. Saturday we had a flood! It was awesome and horrible at the same time. Apparently our tents were perched on the wrong end of a slope. So there was a 4-inch deep river flowing through our camp... and through a few tents that were in the way. Turns out that air mattress float well and are great for saving things that you don't want to get wet. Unless they have holes in them like mine anyway. It flooded right during the cooking of the Venison. So Charley kept cooking (wonderfully I might add) and I ran around like a monkey trying to save his tent. He came out ok, but Jason's was bad. Just about everything in there got wet. A poor lady had her tent snap from the weight of the water. I am not kidding when I am saying flood.

It was fun having everyone perch on stools tables and chairs trying to stay dry under this little tarp awning. I admit I was one of them, I know I won't melt but I found out really quickly that my boots were NOT waterproof. Luckily with the ground being mainly sand that once the rain stopped the flood moved on fairly quickly.

Saturday night was just awesome in general though. I mean really having braised venison with gravy over a rice pilaf for dinner would be amazing normally. In that setting it was fantastic!!!! And then they started drinking and things got really amusing. They were all happy silly drunks. It was a memorable night with lots of laughter and little sleep.

Let's see what else. Charlie gifted me with a set of bows. One is a simple combat bow, sleek and black. The other is a gorgeous laminated hardwood recurve bow for live archery. He even offered to make me arrows. I can't wait to set up a range and practice. Gaa I am excited about that.

It was a wonderful weekend overall I think. Sure it had its share of drama but I met and found again some wonderful people. I can't wait to go back.
