So, chaila43  has made this a month of Posting Awesome Things. And since while things are mostly good over here I am super stressed and busy all the time, I think this is a GREAT IDEA, and everyone should do it.

The theme of my Posting Awesome Things post (note the singular, as I'm not sure I'll have time to do another before the end of the month) is all ( Read more... )

Awww, yay, I'm glad I inspired awesome picspams! I'll be honest, Runaways is the only rec here that even slightly tempts me over to the MARVEL DARK SIDE MWAHAHAHAHA! but I do think I need to check out Steph's run as Batgirl (particularly since it's manageably small, tragic though it seems I will come to find that).

BIG BARDA. ONE OF THE THINGS I LOVE MOST ABOUT HER IS THAT SHE'S NAMED BIG BARDA. And like, yes, I know she's as tall as a basketball player or whatever, but she's not literally a shape-changing giant. And she just goes around calling herself Big Barda. It's fucking awesome.

And really, anyone who doesn't love Lady Blackhawk has no soul.

Plus you make a compelling argument that maybe I should fill one of my empty potential slots come September with JLI, which I haven't been reading and don't know much about, but they do have an intriguing line-up, even if I'm bitter that Booster Gold's series gets canceled and he gets moved to JLI while Power Girl's gets canceled and there's no JSA to move her to. ::grumpyface::

I'm pretty sure Madame Xanadu is part of the line-up for Justice League Dark? I'll be honest, that's not a comic I'm hugely interested in, but it does also feature Zatanna who can be kinda fun and Enchantress whom I know nothing about. It's something I might see if people say good stuff about and thend check out the trades.

Final random aside: I'm an epic geek and play tabletop roleplay games (like D&D?) and at the moment we're playing a DC universe roleplay game. Anyway, apropos of your inclusion of her and your inclusion of Batmans and Robins, in our game, Miss Martian is actually the new Robin following the death of Jason Todd! Yay, Robins! :)

Runaways is FANTASTIC, especially if you are looking for awesome ladies. It fluctuates a bit, but I think there's always more girls than guys, or at least an equal ratio, and also it's just really well done. There's 3 pretty short volumes, but fair warning - the last one ends on a HORRIBLE cliffhanger. It was said it was going on 'hiatus', but that was in like 2009 and I don't know if there has been any news since because I don't know where to look! And Steph's is a fantastic run. There's only 23 issues, and one last one to come, but it's really great.

BIG BARDA IS JUST FANTASTIC. I love her so so much. <33333 I need to figure out what she's in and READ IT ALL. Her husband is pretty adorable too! I like them and their marriage.

LADY BLACKHAWK. HOW CUTE IS SHE.

I really enjoy JLI! There was some funky business in it's latest mini (Justice League: Generation Lost) which will spin off into the new JLI series (well... I don't know now with the new DCnU, but I think it will), but there's different writers on the new series and I'm super hopeful that it will be fantastic. I wish Jaime was still on the team, but the cover makes it look like he won't be. :( Still, Mari McCabe! She's barely been in anything recently that I'm aware of, which is such a shame.

She is! Her and Zatanna. I'm going to tentatively check it out, but I'm kind of worried about it and what they're going to do with Zatanna and Nimue, who are both really fantastic characters.

OMG MISS MARTIAN AS ROBIN. What. WHAT. That sounds so cool and I've no idea why how that would come about but MISS MARTIAN AS ROBIN. I looooove her. (She was just a guest star in Batgirl! :DDDDD SO CUTE.)

OKAY, I have a gazillion comics to read during my current Mad Dash Through Comics, but consider Runaways at least on the list someplace, though argggggh cliffhangerz! Is it set like, really thoroughly in the Marvel universe or could I understand it with minimal knowledge? As I think I mentioned, while I read comics very off-and-on and have a kind of "I will take what I like and leave the rest" attitude to them on account of how often they get...weird, I've always been a DC girl and my Marvel knowledge is...limited to say the least.

And, um, speaking of weirdness in comics, um, okay, look, I have to warn you. Big Barda is fantastic but there was this THING in the 80s where the entire plot revolved around a supervillain brainwashing her and Superman and forcing them to make a porno which he then showed to Mr Miracle. No, I'm not joking. It really happened. REALLY. HAPPENED. Some shit you could not make up if you tried.

I'm gonna go put in my order for new comicses for September tomorrow and we added a couple of extra titles to the list - I'll probably post about it sometime, but I decided to go for JLI and also Batwoman since that one's been recced to me up and down and all over the shop. Plus a few others but those were the two I know you read.

Miss Martian as Robin! :D Actually she hasn't featured that much because Batman's kind of gone err...I want to say rogue, but he's Batman so I'll say even rogueier than usual after Jason Todd's death. And yeah, it makes a bit more sense in game cus a large part of the plot involves us for various, hopefully heroic reasons, having to outsmart and out-detective Batman and find something before he does in the midst of the White Martian war (it's like a giant batshit mix of stuff that happened in canon and stuff that's made up), so um, long story short, it's implied Batman's choice of Miss Martian as Robin is probably not 100% altruistic but also tied up in her usefulness in the situation and, well, he's Batman, and I don't think he'd pass up an opportunity to influence/control/mold someone as powerful as Miss Martian to be more like him. Plus there's some stuff going on with her as to why she's angry and wants to run off and stick a middle finger up at everyone but we haven't worked that out yet.

And now you know far more than you ever wanted to about my RPG game! But yes, Miss Martian, I shall look forward to eventually reading about her in Batgirl!

I thought I'd replied to this, but I guess in all the chaos of moving I didn't. Hm.

Runaways is almost entirely self-contained - there's two crossovers with Young Avengers that are parts of two huge ongoing Marvel events, but other than that there's only small stuff, a few guest appearances etc.

... wow. that's. Impressively weird.

And a;lskdhg I would so, so read that. MISS MARTIAN AS ROBIIIIN.
