“Are you really going to do this?” Bruce asked, looking at Clint and then in the direction of Natasha Romanoff.
Clint nodded in response. He was just staring at Natasha, trying to work up the confidence to actually walk over to her. In his hand he held a plane white envelope with the name ‘Natasha’ written on it. He took deep breaths and then looked Bruce.
“If I cry, be sure to punch me in the face.” Clint said.
Bruce frowned but nodded to keep Clint happy. There was no way he would punch his friend but, at the same time, there was no way that Natasha Romanoff, junior prom queen and most popular girl in school, was going to accept a valentine from Clint Barton, the biggest loser, nerd and weirdo in the school.
Bruce watched as Clint took one last breath before heading over to Natasha. She was standing with her friends, Pepper and Maria, and they were all completely oblivious to Clint walking their way. As he was nearing them, Maria looked up and motioned to the other two to look behind them. Clint swallowed hard but stayed on course.
The three girls watched him and Pepper couldn’t help but laugh a little as she saw the card. When Clint reached the girls, they waited patiently for him to start talking, sure he obviously had something to say. He might have been a bit better at this if he had waited until she was on her own and not in a group, but then again that was easier said than done.
“Natasha,” Clint started when he finally found his voice, “I was…I was wondering if…” He trailed off, trying to gather more confidence. “Happy Valentine’s day!” He blurted out and held out the card.
Pepper and Maria laughed slightly but Natasha looked at him and then took the card, opening it and reading it, a small smile on her face. She looked up at him and smiled.
“Happy Valentine’s day!” She replied.
“I…I was also wondering if,” Clint stumbled over his words again but the fact that she hadn’t laughed in his face at the card gave him a new found confidence. “Will you go to the Valentine’s dance with me?”
At that moment, the infamous Tony Stark came over and, having overheard the exchange, laughed in Clint’s face.
“You seriously think that someone like Natasha would go to the dance with someone like you! You must be joking.” He kept laughing and made sure to say it loud enough so that anyone standing nearby could hear him. Some people laughed along with him and others just walked away, not wanting to get involved.
“Well, I…” Clint trailed off. He didn’t know what to say. All his confidence had gone.
“Look,” Tony said, smiling, “He can’t even speak. And yet he thinks that Natasha would agree to go to the dance with him.”
Clint turned and began to walk away but Natasha decided it was her turn to speak up.
“And why wouldn’t I?” She said loudly, making sure that everyone could hear her too. “Just because I turned you down doesn’t mean I would turn everyone down.”
Clint continued to walk away. He wasn’t sure what point she was making but he was sure that it wouldn’t be good for him either way.
“Clint!” Natasha called after him. He stopped and turned around, frowning slightly but waiting to see what she had to say. Bruce, standing by a nearby tree, looked up to find out what was happening. He was worried and excited for his friend at the same time.
There was silence as everyone waited to find out what Natasha was going to do. Finally breaking the silence, Natasha spoke up.
“I will go to the dance with you. You can pick me up at seven.” She smiled at him. Tony’s jaw dropped and he looked at Clint.
Clint smiled and straightened up before turning and walking back to Bruce, smiling broadly.

I think I may start writing more too. Though I have a couple of other prompts I want to write from here first if I get the chance!
I had to add them in, it's an AU. Though I tried to keep it as true as possible, hence why Thor and Steve aren't there! And I figured that he wouldn't want to be seen crying without a reason or be let away with it.
So glad you liked it! *runs off to write more and potentially, finally, add an avengers icon to my userpics*

Way to go Clint! I love the little detail about Clint straightening up when she accepts. And good for you Natasha both for going to the dance with Clint and for accepting his card.
I'd love to see what happens at the dance, but more than that -- I want to know what was in the CARD!

I actually came looking for a comm like this and this was the one that caught my eye. And thank you for the welcome and the drink vouchers and I don't plan on leaving so don't you worry! *hugs*
