Interesting story in today's news:
www.channel3000.com/family/18290395/detail.html A four-year-old boy breaks into a nearby dollar store, in the middle of the night, to play with the toys. Now that's what I call a DO-er. He didn't just dream, he dared to do what every little boy has probably dreamt of doing.
Of course, I can't say he really broke in. He just happened to find an unlocked door. Had he actually smashed his way in, the story would be a whole lot less cute and the child would sound a whole lot scarier. As it is, there are plenty of scary bits about it. This kid did just decide to get up in the middle of the night, leave the house, cross the street, and enter another building. As a parent, I'd be flipping out about at least 3 of those 4 things.
The article says that child protective services has the kid living with extended relatives until they can review what happened. I suppose CPS has to get involved since the kid was out and about on his little crime spree without his parents around. And I really hope that the kid's decisions don't indicate some family problems. But if things are generally OK at home, how exactly does a parent safely keep their kid indoors at night if they're willing and able enough to unlock the doors to go outside? It would be terrible for CPS to remove the kid if there's nothing wrong other than the night's antics.
