Lately, the police and sheriff in Dane County have been stepping up anti-drunk driving patrols and generally being more visible while patrolling. They're calling this program saturation patrols. Their most recent area of effort has been in the town of DeForest

So long as they concentrate on people who are weaving on the highway or staggering to their cars, i.e. stopping people based on probable cause, I don't have a problem with it

I don't think it is a backlash against using reason and intelligence. I think it is simply that the Tavern organizations are trying to use a fallacy to mis-direct focus e.g. "The Cops are hurting our business unfairly!" or "This is repression by the MAN on people's right to drink!"

Unfortunatly a large chunck of politics and public policy is determined by who has more money or can make the biggest stink, and not what is right for the community as a whole.

Lets face it, some (especially our cited Tavern organizations) care more about selling product and making their own fortunes than on doing what is right and making a better community.
