Lately, the police and sheriff in Dane County have been stepping up anti-drunk driving patrols and generally being more visible while patrolling. They're calling this program saturation patrols. Their most recent area of effort has been in the town of DeForest ( Read more... )

So long as they concentrate on people who are weaving on the highway or staggering to their cars, i.e. stopping people based on probable cause, I don't have a problem with it ( ... )

I don't think it is a backlash against using reason and intelligence. I think it is simply that the Tavern organizations are trying to use a fallacy to mis-direct focus e.g. "The Cops are hurting our business unfairly!" or "This is repression by the MAN on people's right to drink!"

Unfortunatly a large chunck of politics and public policy is determined by who has more money or can make the biggest stink, and not what is right for the community as a whole.

Lets face it, some (especially our cited Tavern organizations) care more about selling product and making their own fortunes than on doing what is right and making a better community.
