I get a quote from Runner's World every day. Well, I used to get one every day, then it stopped for a while, and now I get them quite often, if not every day, again. Some of them really hit me so I'm going to start putting those down here so I can save them. So, yay for you, more boring running stuff for you!
Today: "One of the scariest things about running a marathon for the first time isn't the distance, the muscle pain, the chafing, or the blisters. It's not knowing what's going to happen." -Runner's World UK
This is true, but for me, not knowing what was going to happen was the really exciting part! :)
Others: "Runners are no longer content with fitness but are seeking a new awareness of the self in the total experience of running - and more often than not they are culminating that quest by running a marathon." -George Sheehan
Well, I don't know about culminating...

"The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one." -Mark Twain
This is true of anything! (I am sure Mark Twain was not talking about running.)
"Fitness is a stage you pass through on the way to becoming a runner." -GEORGE SHEEHAN
"Happiness is different from pleasure. Happiness has something to do with struggling and enduring and accomplishing." -GEORGE SHEEHAN
True for a lot of these, but this also applies to so much more than running and athleticism.
"It's not about how fast you go. It's not about how far you go. It's a process." -AMBY BURFOOT, The Runner's Guide to the Meaning of Life
"Believe you can do it. Think no other way but "Yes you can." The human body is capable of considerably more physical endurance than most of us realize." -PAUL REESE
This one arrived in my inbox as I was waiting to leave Detroit Metro Airport for Tampa for the WDW Marathon weekend. Good timing.

"Experience has taught me how important it is to just keep going, focusing on running fast and relaxed. Eventually [pain] passes and the flow returns. It's part of racing." -FRANK SHORTER
"There is a great advantage in training under unfavorable conditions. It is better to train under bad conditions, for the difference is then a tremendous relief in a race." -EMIL ZATOPEK
That one came on Dec. 31, amidst my 20 mile training runs in snow and negative windchills.
"Running well is a matter of having the patience to persevere when we are tired and not expecting instant results." -ROBERT DE CASTELLA
