summer in northern ontario is bear-able

Two days ago, in the early afternoon, I was sitting in the dining room with my laptop, when I noticed a black bear loping across our front lawn, followed by two cubs. They headed down the slope to our neighbour's property. The cubs explored, and soon, one of them found a bag of garbage (which Brad had just put on his step minutes earlier, because he was going to put it iin the down). Then the bear family proceeded to the back yard with the garbage bag, where they had a little picnic.

We had a good view from our kitchen window, so I took a short video, and several pictures:

Then they crossed the road (don't ask why), and disappeared into the bush...

Our city recently designed a new official logo, but I think our unofficial logo should be black bears sifting through trash. Somewhere in there is a metaphor about rugged northerners in a marginal part of the province, making the best of limited opportunities. :)

Cheers,

Bruce
