Lucy sat beside Jay in Lucy's living room. She stretched her foot down the couch to poke Jay in the side, and when Jay looked over, Lucy gave her best pout. Jay just rolled her eyes.
"I hate you," she grumbled. The echo's of her mother's hissy fit over Lucy's suggestion of Jay dating a cop still bounced around the apartment.
"No you don't," Lucy replied with a sweet smile. "You love me. I'm your Lucy-goose." Lucy moved down the couch and wrapped her arms around Jay, then shoved her face into Jay's neck.
"I think you're confusing me with someone else. I hardly like you enough to give you a nickname," Jay crossed her arms and stared forward.
"You do, Jayla-la, you loooove me," Lucy hugged her tighter. Jay fought the smile on her face and caught sight of Faith stepping into the room. Faith giggled and held her hands over her mouth. Lucy looked over. "Faith, come tell Aunt Jay how much she loves us." Lucy held her hand out to her daughter, who moved over and climbed onto the couch. She sat on Jay's lap and grinned.
"You love us," Faith said.
Jay smiled at her goddaughter. "I love you. I don't love your mommy."
"That's okay with me!" Faith leaned in and hugged Jay, then kissed Lucy's cheek. "Night night." She slid down and ran off to her room, where her father was supposed to be tucking her in.
"You loooove me," Lucy whispered.
"Don't make me smack you," Jay said evenly.
~~~
"But you loooove me," a fourteen year old Lucy cried out with a pout.
"Nuh uh," Jay, all of ten, shook her head. "Not today."
Lucy plopped down on the step in front of their building, where Jay sat, and batted her eyelashes at Jay. "Awwww, Jayla-la."
Jay rolled her eyes. "I hate when you call me that."
"Come ooooon," Lucy slipped her arm through Jay's. "I swear we won't get caught! Your mom thinks you're hanging out in our apartment with Nate being a reliable look out - my mom isn't home - they'll never know!"
"Last time you said that I got grounded for a week!" Jay yanked her arm back to herself.
"But you had fun, didn't you? It was worth it!" Lucy jumped to her feet and took a couple steps down the sidewalk. "Come oooon, you know you want to."
Jay sighed. "Aren't you supposed t'teach me right from wrong?"
"Yes. And it would be so wrong if we don't go see these guys play. Please?" Lucy pouted. "I don't want to go alone. You hafta be my wingman."
"Wingman?" Jay looked up in confusion.
"Yea, you know...wingman."
"You don't know what that means, do you?" Jay slowly got to her feet.
"No," Lucy admitted, grabbing onto Jay's arm. "But you'll come?"
"Yea, yea, I'm comin'. And you're buyin' me a coke."
