( Danny =
i_dont_cuddle. Piece taken from RP and used with permission. Also it took me til now to realize I've been spelling Jay's mom's name wrong, though pronouncing it right. So FYI, it's Ada not Aida. Yea, I've been outta it.)
Ten - She let the music flow through her body and moved with it, moving against Danny. He seemed awkward. Too awkward. She chuckled and moved closer, dropping an arm over his shoulder. “Loosen up,” she told him. He rolled his eyes.
“It's been awhile.”
She grinned and moved her hips to his. “It's not that hard. Think of it like sex...get the beat...move your body with mine...” He snorted and kept attempting. “See? You're not so bad.”
“As I said - it's been awhile.”
“Would you rather sit back down?”
“When it comes to dancin' - yeah.”
She shrugged and backed off then continued dancing on her own. He headed over to one of the table and watched.
Nine - She threw her head back in laughter as she spun around the room with Chris in her arms. The little boy was all gummy grins and giggling. Barely a year old, he couldn't quite lead, so she lead. She moved around the living room belonging to her best friend where she was babysitting.
”Are you strong enough to be my man?” She sang with the radio. Chris' older sister, Faith, watched from the couch with a squeal and clap of her hands.
“My turn Jay! My turn!”
“With me or Chris?”
“You!”
Jay grinned and set Chris in the playpen then grabbed the five year old girl in her arms and gave her a long spin.
Eight - “Wanna dance?” The man slid up against her, moving his hands along her sides without consent. She turned from where she was dancing with one of her girlfriends and glared at the guy.
“Wanna get your hands off'a me before I kick your balls into your throat?”
Seven - “You are gorgeous,” he murmured in her ear as she danced against him. A little smile came to her lips.
“You think so?”
“Mmm, absolutely. But I'm sure you know that.”
“I like being reminded.”
“I could remind you back at my place if you'd like.”
“I think you should.”
Six - “Would you like to dance?” Jay glanced up from where she sat and grinned at
the man standing over her in a beautiful tux.
“I'd be honored,” she said as she stood up and took his hand. He lead her to the dance floor and set a hand to her back and began to slowly lead. She held his shoulder and tilted her head to him. “You don't think your wife will object?”
He grinned and dipped her. “She's been my wife for three hours. Don't you think that's long enough?” He pulled her back up and she hit his shoulder as she laughed.
“Bad Marcus. That's my girl you're talkin' about.”
“Sorry, sorry.” His eyes crossed the room to watch
Lucy as she danced with her older brother in her long white gown. “I'm lucky, huh?”
“Incredibly,” Jay nodded.
Five - “Jayla!”
Ada Cruz walked in from the back room of the store and crossed her arms. “Why are you dancing when you should be cleaning?”
Jay grinned and turned to face her mother while she continued moving to the music wafting through the open door. A street festival had taken it's place down the block and she was enjoying it. “Oh Mom, whatever happened to the days you used to dance?” She moved forward to take her mother's hands.
“I got old.” She swatted her daughter back.
“You're not old, you're beautiful. Dance with me Mami,” she grinned. Ada rolled her eyes, but was smiling. “Show Daddy you still got moves.”
“Oh I've got moves, little one. Who do you think taught you?” And with the soft spring air and music coming through the shop, the women danced.
Four - “I don't wanna go to the lame dance,” Jay shrugged with her arms crossed. Lucy left out a huff and plopped to Jay's side on the front stoop of their apartment building.
“Don't be stupid, Jay. You only get one prom.”
“Yea, the prom I don't have a date to,” the teenager grumbled. “Sure, several guys are all for tryin' to get my clothes off...but not get me in a prom dress.”
Lucy put an arm around the younger girl and kissed the side of her head. “You are so dead wrong about that.” She pointed up to the front door. Jay turned and glanced up to see Lucy's brother standing there in a tux with a corsage. He smiled.
“Want to take me to your prom, Jay?”
“You'd wanna go to a high school prom?” She raised her brow at the 25 year old.
He shrugged. “I missed mine.”
“I don't have a dress,” Jay looked at Lucy.
“I have dresses. Come on.” Lucy got up and dragged Jay inside.
Three - “Isn't this cute, honey?” Ada held up a pink tutu. Jay wrinkled her nose.
“No.”
“Try it on. For me?”
“I don't wanna be a ballerina, Mommy.”
“You wanted to last year. Now I have the money for lessons.”
“I changed my mind. I want to take tap dance.”
Her mother sighed and rubbed her brow. “Well...you can't tap dance in a tutu.”
Two - “Mommy...” a young Jay peered over the bed at her mother who was laying with her eyes shut. The blankets were pulled up tightly. “Mommy...I'm bored.”
“Go play with Lucy,” Ada murmured.
“No, Mommy. I want to be with you.”
Her mother opened her eyes and looked at Jay. The woman's eyes were raw and puffy from weeks of crying. “I'm tired, honey.”
“I miss you,” Jay said softly, her chin trembling slightly. Ada watched Jay awhile longer, then sighed and blinked herself back to reality. She slowly moved to get out of the bed she'd barely got out of anymore and touched Jay's head gently.
“What would you like to do?”
Jay's little eyes filled with tears and she wiped them away. “I want to dance with Daddy.” Ada's face crumbled and she bent down to pick her daughter up. She held her close and swayed in the silence of their lonely apartment.
“Me too, baby. Me too.”
One - A four year old Jay peeked around the doorway of their living room and watched as her parents slowly danced. It was late in the evening and Jay couldn't sleep, but she had heard music and needed to investigate.
Her father held her mother close and they were laughing and whispering as they danced to one of her Daddy's favorite records. She stepped into the dim living room and held her arms up. “Me next!”
Martin turned and looked down at the little girl. He pretended to look stern. “Jayla, you should be in bed.”
“No!” She shouted with a grin. She jumped up and down a bit, still holding her arms out. “My turn!”
Ada laughed and patted her husbands chest. “Dance with the angel. Maybe she'll sleep.”
“Okay, okay, come on.” Martin scooped Jay up and held her. He started moving around the living room slowly. Jay smiled and leaned her head to his chest and closed her eyes. He smiled and rubbed her back slowly. “You are an amazing dancer,” he said softly. He kissed the top of her head. Jay just sighed contentedly.
