this. Though...by two days and not a month.)
She heard his phone calls all day. Calling Flack and the others. Taunting them. Haggerty ignored her. There wasn't much she could do other than sit there anyway. Sit and try to figure out how the hell this had happened.
She figured enough, hearing him argue about it all. Went to jail for something he didn't do. Held it against the cops who took him down. Why he picked Danny to torture, she wasn't sure. And that's why she was there. He wanted torture Danny and he was doing that by hurting Jay. And Jay knew how much it would twist Danny up. Not just because he cared about her, but because that was the man he was. He got twisted up easily. Why the hell was she worrying about Danny when she was the one tied to a chair?
Jay wasn't sure how many hours had passed, but it had been a lot. She was hungry and tired. And when she finally felt like she might nod off, get some sleep, she heard it. Sirens. A lot of sirens.
She heard Haggerty start to cuss and throw things. She heard his phone ring.
Arguing. He was arguing. Wanting things his way. Threatening Jay's life. He screamed and shouted. He hung up, but they would only call back. And then there was silence.
No phone calls. Haggerty wasn't speaking or pacing. All Jay could hear was her own breathing. Then chaos.
Voices shouting. Comotion. She could feel people running around her. She heard shots. And then a voice that melted her heart completely.
"Keep 'em down," Flack's voice shouted nearby. Then hands were on her. Comforting, strong hands. "Jay...Jay, you alright?" The cloth was pulled from her eyes and she blinked, looking into Flack's blue eyes. He was knelt before her, pulling the tape from her lips. Someone else was untying her arms. She was crying again. "Sshh, shh. It's gonna be okay," he nodded.
As soon as her arms were free she threw them around his neck and clung to him. His hand moved to pat her back a bit awkwardly at first, then he relaxed and just held her for a moment. "He..what..." Jay opened her eyes to look over Flack's shoulder. Haggerty was face down on the floor, his leg bleeding. Two cops were pulling him to his feet, hands cuffed behind his back.
"Don't look at him," Flack said. He bent down to untie her feet and helped her stand. She fell against him, her legs to tired and weak. He supported her weight and wrapped an arm around her as he guided her through the damp, run down apartment building. It was clearly abandoned. They got outside and the lights of the cop cars and ambulence burned her eyes.
She had so many questions. She wanted to know what the hell had happened, how they found her, why this guy had to do what he did...but every single question left her mind the moment she saw a familiar face. His face was all that she could see. Paramedics were trying to direct her to an ambulence, but she batted them off.
Danny was pulling away from Stella and running under the crime scene tape. He met her halfway and she just fell into his arms. He held onto her tightly and she buried her face in his neck. Her limbs were still numb and her knees started to shake. Danny held her tighter and slowly sank to the pavement, gripping onto her. He held her in his lap and stroked her hair slowly. Neither came up with anything to say. The talking could be done later.
