I have access to the Net, as least for a moment! Our home cpu is DED, and my work network has been crapped out since yesterday, but is back up at least for a moment.
The basement flooded last night, no I don't want to talk about it. I do have to throw out some stuff and clean up this weekend though. I am not having the best week...
I wrote this yesterday when the network went down. Enjoy!:
Facebook is killing my LJ. I’ve already started to see the “I’m giving up on LJ for Facebook” posts. The problem is that LJ is just so much more versatile. The Filters alone are worth it. But I do spend way too much of my internet time of FB.
Actually I’m not on the net at all as I type this. Our server has gone ka-flew-y today. At home, we seem to have picked up the Sasser Worm and our computer is out of commission too.
So…I figured I would take a moment to catch up on what has been going on for the last couple of weeks.
Sapphire was the giant time suck that it always is. It was worth it though. I had a really awesome time. I still feel like I am recovering. After the event I went on a purposeful One week off my diet and exercise regime. I wish I hadn’t done that. I am full of fail in trying to get back on the wagon. This is frustrating because I am finally starting to see some positive results. So, today at lunch I am going to go for a walk and tonight I am going to get back on the Bike. I fought at practice for the first time in about three weeks. I did ok but my elbow was really messed up before I even started. I guess it was good that I went slow and took it sorta easy.
In other news, Grace has just been amazing. She has gone through another mental development and picked up some new words, and has been stringing simple two word sentences together like “Daddy, Bye Bye!” and such. Her three favorite words are “NO!”, “Wow!” and “Weeeeeee!” as in - I’m going to spin around like Wonderwoman and say “Weeeeeeeeeee!!!”. The “Wow” thing is super cute, because she will whisper it when she sees something cool that she likes. Like when I say “Look Gracie, its Tinkerbelle!”, she will whisper ‘wow!’ very quietly. Very, very deadly cute.
Yesterday Grace ran into our bedroom where I was changing with a beret in her hair that Mommy had put in. She was clearly showing off how cute she was. Mommy took her ruby tiara from the wedding and place it cockeyed on Gracie’s head. Usually Grace HATES hats, but she just said “wow” in that quiet voice and then spun around and around saying “WEEEEEEEEEE!” When we left the house, she was still wearing the tiara. It was like she was saying “Bout damn time!” or something. So yes, in case there was any doubt, my little girl is a Princess.
So Sapphire Joust Bests in no particular order:
I ate really well. From Beth who got us sandwich fixings on Friday to Isobel and Mathieu’s food plan we were stuffed all weekend.
Keg of Legend. Oh yeah. It rocked.
Bardics! Saturday and Sunday! As usual, the Sunday night bardic was the better one. I kept to my tradition to not repeat myself all weekend. Good tunes. Lots of new good singers too.
Sunday Court. Saturday Court was just off for me. Forgetting the Scrolls really seemed to throw me off my game, but Sunday court seemed to flow well. Lots of good folks got deserved awards at both courts so it is all good.
St. Aiden Mellee Tourney. Caer Mear was victorious! Awesome! It’s great to see the group rally around us and it is gratifyingly to see all the hard work we have done with recruitment and retention of older fighters paying off. I think the group is pumped up. I wish more folks were going to Pennsic, but with the economy in the shitter, it is what it is. Part of me was sad to not be fighting, but I was glad to let Melisent and the team shine and thankful that I wasn’t fighting in the Sump Mud. (yuck!)
Laughter. I had a great camp full of good folks. We laughed and laughed and there was No Camp Drama. It was awesome.
Our guys doing well in the tourneys. Melisent really wanted to see Caer Mear folks bring it home this year, and we sure did our damndest. Amos finaled in Sapphire, Augustine in the Novice, and we won the Mellee Tourney. Always our guys fought with strength and honor, as if there was any question. Also, three of the final four finalists in Sapphire were from VA and attend the COB practice. It shows that all the hard work and effort we have been doing is finally paying off. Everyone should be very proud.
Overall, an outstanding event. The first year of our two year tenure is done now. It is an amazing time for us in the SCA that is for sure. A part of me will be sad when it ends because there is always more that can be done, and a part of me will be relieved and grateful. That being said, there is no coasting on this second year. We build and build and build until we are done.
Then we drink. A lot.
In the meantime Summer War is one month away today. Melisent is getting her autocrat stuff together. I am just trying to stay out of her way at this point. Next week is Golden Rose where she is going to retain for the day and I’m watching Gracie. That should be fun!
This weekend’s activities will depend on what the weather does. It might be a rainy one so who knows. I really need to attack the damn holly trees and cut some other shrubs back. This is really the last free weekend till Pennsic for us…isn’t that CRAZY?
Why yes, yes it is.
