Interesting and cool. I Sucked worse then usual when I tried the stance discussed in the Iron Rose book. There are so few female fighters in Atlantia that WHY would it matter how you rank against the others? Obviously this has come up or he wouldn't be writing about it but seriously? There's no sex on the battlefield!
Also, I've found that when right handed people give me a sword foot forward stance, closing to the A/B line then taking a step towards their sword side with my sword foot, while throwing a wrap in front of my body... Anyway, there's a pretty reliable shot that lands on the inside of their thigh. At that point, they are on their knees and their stance doesn't matter so much anymore.
Awesome link, thank you:>. I think I have the book somewhere still but I'm perversely glad it wasn't just me having issues with the precepts of it not working.
It's made for good reading this morning. I read the book a long time ago and attended a few of the practices and was told two things---1)I fight wrong for a woman, 2) I'm too aggressive. Ok, fine. I dropped that stuff like a hot rock and concentrated on trying to listen and watch fighters whose techniques worked for me. I wonder if the whole ranking concept plays into some of the attitude I've noticed with women fighters at events over the years when you get a few women together who don't seem to know each other and do a lot of bristling if you come up and say hi.
Well, I was told at these practices at Pennsic and Gulf wars that I was too aggressive and hit to hard. I really now dislike fighting other women at wars after these experiences. To be fair this was brought up while fighting in Meriedies as well so it could be a cultural fighting thing. If you're out on the fighting field you're out to get hit so woman or man suck it up and deal. I get plenty of butt whuppings out there and it's all counting as learning experiences in my book.
Thinking more closely about it I think that at the time I was fighting a lot in A range as well. Perhaps that had something to do with it. I'm not a great fighter but when fighting I enjoy it immensely.

And while there may not be sex on the battlefield, don't go looking too closely into the Pennsic castle at night. Yikes!
