I have made it to 11 am with out quitting and going home for the day. A moral victory!!!!
My stomach is rebelling and I am sore and exhausted from Bloodbath this weekend.
The event was fun, if rainy. My pavilion is almost dry down in the basement, stretched out on chairs. Not the best way to dry it and I worry about the edges laying on the floor, but it can't be helped. It rained like hell Saturday and all day yesterday/ Today is grey and humid so having it up (not that I could have put it up anyway) still wouldn't help that much.
Bloodbath itself was pretty fun. I haven't been in at least a dozen years and not much has changed. It's a just a big bear pit tourney at a public park. Easy and fun. I'm sure how many fights I won and lost but I think it I fought about 40 or so fights, loosing around a dozen or less. I took two longish breaks for water and air, and one to fight pick ups/training with a guy visiting from An Tir. There were 48 fighters in the tourney, and the only knights there where me and Vlad. I was told just before the tourney that the knights 'traditionally don't win Bloodbath' - i.e. not counting their points and announcing the highest unbelt as the winner. Because of my breaks I wasn't in the running anyway, but I'm still disapproving of that method. This was also three out (which I think is fine) and wounds retained (which I have decided I extremely dislike). Sure I hate knee-fighting, but that isn't it at all. I dislike getting wins against folks that have to start at a disadvantage. I'd rather we start the contest on equal footings and go from there. It also leads to jacknappery like people giving up 'points of honor' which I find totally and completely insulting.
Anyway, those small bitches aside, I had a great time. The rain started as a very light drizzle about an hour in and one became a factor for footing in the last 15 minutes or so. It really didn't start raining hard until we pulled off site. Pepin and Balin went with me and had a great time.
It must have been funny as hell watching us get out of the van at the rest stop though. Pepin and I must have looked like it was lunchtime at a Rest home; we had all the moves, but not the walkers. I got to see the cute little Trey though I didn't really get any time with him or Denise (no wonder with the rain)
Still, a great time. I was greeted with an awesome cheeseburger by my amazing wife and smiles from my little girl. I got to read to her and put her to bed (and wake her up too in fact) so it was just about a perfect day.
Sunday morning was Daddy time in the AM, a nap for a fussy baby, and then the all you can eat Chinese Buffet at lunch. I had been daydreaming about shrimp when I got up from my nap, so Kim suggested we go there. I had all I could eat and then some, as well as way too much sushi, with way too much wasabi.
After that we went to the Mall so Grace could get out and expend some energy. Unfortunately she is still way too small to play in the play area so we ended up at Stride Right in their tiny little play area where she got to play with a 10 month old boy. We terrorized the giant Barnes and Noble they have put in and my little girl promptly ran to the graphic novel section first and pulled a copy of Warren Ellis's Thunderbolts off the shelf and wouldn't give it up. MY GIRL!!!!
After the mall we let Grace watch Jungle Book, which is starting to have a "Zena Effect" on me, putting me out for nap #2. Grace was very sweet and gave me lots of cuddles. Grandma came home and we had Pinos for dinner. I had pepperoni, which I loaded up with red pepper for some reason.
....I have no idea why I did this to myself, but the pepper and the wasabai have destroyed my stomach. I'm a little better today after a yogurt, but damn....I am a moron.
We watched the first hour of the premiere of Kings, which I found just too derivative and obvious to really enjoy, despite Ian McShane, who I would watch read a phone book. I missed the best lines because we were talking over it that I heard him have in the whole thing so it was pretty much a total wash. We switched over to Big Love at 9 and I was very glad to do so. (I might watch the second hour On Demand, who knows...) Another excellent episode of BL with a lot of drama and suspense building. After that I channel surfed until the Larry the Cable Guy Roast came on (what can I say, I like Roasts) and then it was straight to bed.
Overall Health:
The knee and elbow held up pretty well, though I had a half dozen blows land light because of the elbow. Lost a couple of fights that way, but no big deal.
The current pain is in my hips. It was my right hip on Sunday and today it is my left hip. Ouchie. I need an adjustment and a nap.
I am seriously considering calling it a day at noon and going home. The only problem is that I would have to get up at 4 and come back to the city to pick up Kimmie.
I guess I will just suck it up and deal, but damn, between the soreness, the stomach ache and sinus funk I am suffering. Time to man up!
Right now it is about a victory of inches and seconds. Every fifteen minutes that passes is like running a mile. I can do this, I can do this...
