Life updates. Stuff like that.

I somehow managed to rip one of my earrings out last saturday.  The screen door chain was unhooked and I backed into it, not realizing I'd tangled it in my peircing.  I bumped something else, and when I moved to catch it, I turned and ripped my earring out the side of my ear.

The antithesis of fun.

I'd been drinking, so it didn't hurt _too_ much, but it bled like crazy all over my shirt.  It's pretty gross right now, all scabbed over, so I've been taking a kind of perverse pleasure out of showing that to people.  Plus the ring in my cartiledge came out at the same time, but fortunately, that one merely came apart rather than ripping through.  That would have really sucked.

Other news... I just did a rough count on the poetry transcription, and I've still got over 100 left before I get out of the high school section, and about the same amount of stuff between then and now.  My quantity started slowing down in late '97, fortunately.  These days I only really write when I'm feeling particularly inspired about something, and when I have a reasonably original idea.  The hardest part is momentum.  It was easy back in the day to pund out four or five during a 45 min study hall, because I was doing so much of it; now when I write maybe one or two a month, it's harder to get back into the rhythm.  I'll do a couple in a week all of a sudden, then run out of new ideas and not pick up my pen for three months, and then it's hard to get back into that mind-set.

But here's a poem for my fans.  Well, fan.  *waves*  You know who you are.

When I'm With You

When I'm with you, I feel as though my heart has learned to fly
And I accept this happily without ever asking why
And at your touch it leaps up into the sky so blue
And never do I doubt that the love I feel is true

When I'm with you I feel as though my heart has learned to swim
The waters of love and happiness are the seas that I swim in
My heart fills up with happiness at the merest thought of you
And never will I doubt that the love I feel is true

When I'm with you I feel as though my heart has learned to walk
It's learned to dance, it's learned to run, it's learned to sing and talk
It shouts and sings about a love that always feels like new
And never will I doubt that the love I feel is true

My sense of meter was getting  better by this point.  I've never really been into countin syllables, and this was written at the height of my "long lines" phase, but most of them can be read aloud pretty consistently, except the last line in each stanza has a little stutter in it.  *rechecks*  Maybe not most, but some.
there are a few things about this one that I still rather like.  The second line of the second quatrain is not one of them, by the way.  Wow.

Turns out I was wrong, by the way.  Should've doubted.  *chuckles*  Especially about her not cheating on me.
*shrugs*  You live, you learn, I guess.
