If you throw something away, you will need it.
I know they say that if you haven't worn something in 6 months to a year, you're supposed to get rid of it. I obviously can't go with the 6 months thing - Hello! Seasons! Honestly, the year thing doesn't work for me, either. Just because I haven't worn it in a while doesn't mean I'm not going to. I have a very hard time getting rid of things, clothes or otherwise, because as soon as I do, that's when I need it.
This morning I was mixing up some
pumpkin pie squares for tomorrow. (The link is not the exact recipe I used, but I like this one a little better. My topping called for melted butter, which I cut in half, and twice as much brown sugar.) They're basically pumpkin pie with a butter, sugar, oatmeal crust in a 13x9 pan. Same spices as pumpkin pie, so I started pulling the spices out of the cabinet. Cinnamon. Check. Cloves. Check. Where's the ginger? That's right, I ran out of ginger and bought some from the bulk spices section at the grocery store to refill the spice container. However I haven't used ginger in a while, and the container was sitting out on the counter. I got tired of looking at it and decided that I wasn't going to use it, so I threw it out - last week, I think. Obviously I forgot that I did have a use for that particular container.
These other ice cream, yogurt, and sour cream containers I have around here? Some I use, especially the sour cream one, because they are a great size for freezing all kinds of things. Some I don't use, and I eventually have to toss some because you really can have too many containers. As soon as I toss them, I bet I come up with something I needed them for. It just seems to work that way.
Until I get another empty spice container, which I will have to relabel, I can just keep the ginger in the little zipper bag I brought it home from the store in. That works too.
