Usually I don't have a problem writing in order. Or at least close to order. I know some authors skip around writing whatever piques their interest, but I rarely write beyond a few chapters of the last chapter I wrote (I may skip one or two to continue with a character I'm currently working on). Lately, though, I've gotten stuck on both Bear and Rian Inkwright (ironically both in a major church ~ perhaps there's a parallel there I should be working on) and Imsikwatash isn't a lot of fun right now because he's so cowardly. While that won't change necessarily, I want to get to a place where I can discuss his naivete rather than his fear of the unknown (and that isn't a fault of his, the Forevergreen is a scary place for any human). I've been trying to soldier through it when I feel well enough to write (which hasn't been often), but not making much progress.

So imagine my surprise today when I thought of the next chapter for Pi Fu this morning. I wasn't sure how much more attention I was going to give him. He was more of a character to give a Shakespearean opening of "here's the ending" rather than to be a feature of the book. But the Uxai do feature in helping Rian evolve into the character he will be in the next two novels. It felt like I had finally gotten out of the mud and the wheels are turning again. I hope that I can use this momentum to pound out the previous chapters I'm stuck on. I may have to leave them incomplete for awhile and move on to other chapters.

Also, knowing that I modify real world names/terms for my naming conventions in the Third World, kudos to anyone who can figure out where the names Pi Fu and Skere Khane came from. Skere Khane is the newest character I've come up with, as I realized the only other villainous character in the book gets killed in chapter 11.

writing, the third world, writer's block, the end of bliss
