ROSE.
I have a really complicated relationship with Rose because I didn’t see how her and Ten’s relationship progressed to the Season 2 finale. As a result, I initially didn’t see how this could have complicated the dynamics the writers could have had with writing an intimate relationship between Martha/Ten. I felt that because of all the nearly fanatic Rose love, I noticed that the writers were very defensive and trying not to draw so much ire after such a heartbreaking Ten/Rose episode. I understand why there would be resentment towards the Doctor and Martha if they had seemingly forgot Rose.
However, this show is about the Doctor and his many companions, not the Doctor and the memory of the Blond One. I hated how RTD tried to shove Ten/Rose as OTP down our throats even into season 4; consequently, this overshadowed both Donna and Martha and drew a murderous ire towards RTD. I could go on and on but I’m not even going to bash Rose because I respect her character, especially S1 Rose, but I don’t like promoting one companion over others; especially by writers who are supposed to showcase the uniqueness and remarkablity of all the companions not get bogged down by rabid fangirls. I just feel they should be above all that. It’s like yes Rose was great, but look at just how remarkable Martha and Donna were.
In this season, everyone, including the writers and some in fandom were against Martha; but Martha herself proved everyone over and over again how amazing she was. The question was, why did she ever have to prove herself in the first place?
