I am at Calvin Crest in California, near Oakhurst. It's really beautiful up here. There are tons of trees in this beautiful setting and we get to stay in a really nice ski lodge type place. Class is amazing, but long and tiring. I have learned so much already- I can kinda half save people!
Yesterday I had my clinical rotation in the ambulance for twelve hours: noon to midnight. So amazing. This is what I saw:
- self commited suicidal man with crazy hallucinations that the CIA is coming to get him, hence he wants to burn flowers because he thinks they're real people.
- a woman going into labor. she was on coke for 6.5 months of the pregnancy. i hope the little tyke is okay.
- a man go into cardiac arrest as we arrived at the hospital. we were taking him to the hospital for emotional stress and withdrawal issues.
- a transfer of an old man who was less than 100 pounds and just wanted to sleep.
- four person car accident. all drinking. three dead, pretty much instantly. the guy who lived had three counts of manslaughter- that's the rest of his life. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE MOTHER FUCKERS.
What I can't shake is the face of the driver of car in which the three people died. I will probably not forget it for a while. It wasn't scary, but these people were real, and they had lives, or whatever. Two of them we young, near my age- 24. It looked like one of them was on the phone when the accident happened. He wasn't wearing a seat belt. One of the guys basically got thrown in the trunk. Yikes. And the media was being all assholeish and trying to get up into the car while the people were still in it. So disrespectful.
I didn't get shot in Fresno, which I was honestly worried about. I also didn't see a gunshot wound, which was good becuase I would have probably freaked out.
I miss Oberlin. And everything in it.
